AMERICA’S DISPOSABLE PEOPLE

Why So Much Killing and Disregard for Life?

How many times do we need to read this, “It is unclear what motivated the shooting, but investigations are ongoing and will continue into most of the day…” One of the by-products of being in a Covid lockdown is not only did we avoid colds and the flu but the mass shootings were put on hold. Now that we are beginning to reopen, guns and shootings seem to be in the news every other day. WHY?

Jim Jordan, Representative of Ohio, once again embarrassed himself and his state by verbally abusing Dr. Anthony Fauci in a hearing on the Hill yesterday. It seems that Jordan’s agenda is to use his taxpayer-funded job to harass, vent and inflame citizens with no productive result.

The fact that Jordan disrespected Congress by not wearing a coat in a formal setting speaks to the character of the man, but isn’t it a moral affront to pit the number of people who have died from Covid-19 against the debate about when we will get all our rights back? Jordan was only trying to get on the news, which he did, but how do you think the families of those who have succumbed to the virus feel about his diatribe? Fauci is trying to save lives and Jim Jordan was yelling at him for no good reason. WHY?

All the numbers start to run together when seeing the daily stats, but we must always remember those numbers represent people. According to a Washington Post analysis of data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, during the past week thirty-eight states have reported an increase in the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19. But the national statistics don’t capture the intensity of the coronavirus emergency in the hotspots. Michigan reported more than 10,000 new infections on Tuesday alone. On Wednesday, the state reported an average of 46 deaths a day, up from 16 a month earlier. If 46 people were killed in a mass shooting, we would be alarmed and saddened.

Remember how you felt the morning after October 1, 2017 when Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip? He killed 61 people and injured 867 of the attendees. Put the coronavirus statistics in those terms and it begets a raw emotion and perhaps depression. Every day in MICHIGAN, more than 10,000 are hospitalized with Covid and 46 to 60 of them die.

According in CNN, 45 shootings have taken place in the last thirty days in the USA. Here are a few of the more infamous ones. On March 16th, eight people were killed by a gunman at three massage businesses in Atlanta, Georgia. Six of the victims were of Asian descent. On March 22nd in Boulder, Colorado, a shooter at a supermarket killed ten people, including a police officer who was the first to respond to the scene. In Orange, California on March 31st, a gunman killed four people and critically wounded a fifth at a Southern California office building. On April 7th, former NFL player Phillip Adams shot six people, including Robert Lesslie, a prominent doctor, his wife and two of their grandchildren along with two air conditioning technicians. His brain is now being examined for possible degenerative disease that has been shown to cause violent mood swings and other cognitive disorders in some athletes and members of the military. At least in this case, we might get an answer, albeit, too late.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Just last night, a gunman opened fire outside and inside a FedEx Ground facility near the Indianapolis main airport, killing eight people, wounding several others and sending witnesses running before taking his own life. We’ll probably never learn the true motivation of this former FedEx employee, but it’s pretty damn clear we have a huge problem in the United States of America.

While we are watching bad guys with guns shooting good people without guns, we are also seeing police officers around the country shooting people for minor issues and traffic stops. We watch the court cases with witnesses and experts giving their testimony but the victims have no voice there.

I am angered by Jim Jordan’s obvious disregard for life, his disrespect of a medical expert and his disdain for a united effort to beat the virus. He’s so worried about the Frist Amendment he’s forgotten about all of our rights to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” My idea of happiness is not laying in a hospital room on a ventilator. Should Jordan’s shredding of policies and extra care taken to lower the spread of a virus make things worse then he’s complicit, just like Wayne LaPierre of the NRA is complicit in every mass shooting in America. Yes, I get all the Second Amendment stuff but what suggestion or steps has LaPierre made to solve the problem of American mass shootings? Bupkis.

The idea that a good guy with a gun will keep us safe is more than fallacious, it just doesn’t work at all. If we had a competent president when the global pandemic broke out, we would not have sacrificed hundreds of thousands of American lives to keep the economy rolling. It’s not helpful to debate our freedoms when we have kids being shot by cops, a virus taking a thousand lives each day and mass shootings wasting people all over the country. Where does Representative Jim Jordan get off screaming at Dr. Fauci when he has not put forth a single idea to cure Covid-19? He’s much beyond a squeaky wheel, he’s a horrendously loud human fart.

We should not have disposable people. Human life is not sacred when we talk one way about Roe vs. Wade and then other ways about gun control, national health policies and police reform. If you care only about your dogma, then you are most likely disregarding the people you supposedly serve. Elected officials have a supreme responsibility to make sure all Americans are safe — safe to live, safe to work and safe to travel without fear of becoming infected with a virus or being executed by a cop. We must get back to our values with the understanding that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness mean something. If not, then we are just another third-world county but with lots of money.

IT WAS ONE YEAR AGO

They are going to make him look very bad

Tonight, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, will address the nation on this historic moment in time. On March 11, 2020, we first faced the bleak reality that the novel coronavirus would be unavoidable for months to come, perhaps longer, and that action was needed prevent a thing named COVID-19 from taking our country down.

For nearly two months before that day, health and government officials had been sounding an alarm about the virus as it infected and killed thousands of people around the world. We knew it had moved from China to Italy, and then it struck America with Seattle having the first death.

Ex-President Donald Trump repeatedly downplayed the severity of the threat, telling people, “It will go away, just stay calm.” I could pepper this post with dozens of absurd statements and farfetched opinions the 45th President would go on to disseminate through Twitter, TV and the White House press room, but that isn’t necessary. Tonight, we’ll hear the new President’s speech and I am sure he will outline some of the fallacies and failures of the past year.

I have been writing a daily report on the pandemic and sending it to my friends and family for about 300 days. I started that project because I wanted them to know the extent of the coronavirus, but also to keep me up to date with statistics around the country. It has been a sobering task of love. On March 11, 2020, we had 372 cases of COVID-19 and only 12 deaths, but the experts knew it would get worse, much worse.

The next day, Thursday, March 12, the National Basketball League announced that game play would be suspended “until further notice.” The NBA took that action faced with concerns and uncertainties about the impact of the coronavirus on its games, its business and its extended family of players, coaches and fans. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver grasped the severity of this new pandemic before most. He also instituted what became known as a “bubble” in Orlando to finish the season and playoffs with extraordinarily little infection. The National Hockey League did the same. Smart thinking!

After downplaying the threat of the virus for days, President Trump made an Oval Office announcement on March 13, 2020, saying he would sharply restrict travel from Europe, but he never stopped it. He declared that the US would cut travel from 26 European nations, except the United Kingdom. The month-long restriction didn’t apply to US citizens and their families nor to green card holders. Trump said the US would monitor the situation and hinted that the restrictions might be lifted earlier. Earlier than what? We don’t know. Regardless, hundreds of thousands of people flew into the US without any tests for the virus. It was an honest mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. Over the next six months, the United Kingdom had a fast and dense spread of COVID-19. Just because people spoke English, didn’t make them immune to the virus.

When you watch coronavirus anniversary documentaries and news specials this week, prepare yourself for some extremely critical remarks about how our country handled the pandemic. It’s no secret that most of those assessments will land squarely on Donald Trump’s shoulders.

We can now better understand why Bob Woodward released the audio from his phone call with Trump where he admitted to knowing the seriousness of COVID. Woodward was doing what he could to save America from a reckless, unaware and incompetent leader. It worked. Step back from all the rhetoric, lies and stupid theories to see that Trump lost to Joe Biden by seven million votes because he thoroughly mishandled the pandemic. It wasn’t a fraudulent election, it was deceitful management of public safety that did him in. I’ll use the legal term “negligent” because that it was.

Etched into my brain is one of Donald Trump’s more idiotic statements, “If we keep the death toll under 100,000, we will have done an excellent job.” Excuse me, Mr. Trump, but there is no way that huge number of fatalities can be called “excellent.” I wonder how our loser-leader would characterize the more than 528,000 deaths today. The 2020 election can be seen as Trump asking for a mulligan regarding his handling of the pandemic. America soundly rejected him.

I can’t understand why the Republican Party wants anything to do with Donald Trump. He’s a loser. Reportedly, the former President sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Republican National Committee demanding they, his own party, stop using his image and name in their fundraising efforts. I thought he was going to lead the party. Politico reported that, “The Republican National Committee dismissed a cease-and-desist demand from former President Trump’s attorneys Monday…”  Their attorney went on to say, “The RNC has every right to refer to public figures as it engages in core, First Amendment-protected political speech, and it will continue to do so in pursuit of these common goals.”

Oh boy, someone is using this as a teachable moment about the First Amendment for Donald Trump. It’s so rich and ironic! Trump can’t stop anyone from using his likeness. He relinquished that right when he became the president. There is no way he could prove that the RNC’s use of his picture could cause him any more harm than what he has already inflicted upon himself.

The news networks love sticking it to Trump. After five years of being called the “enemy of the people,” the free press has every right to extract their pound of flesh, wait, make that fifty pounds of fatso-flesh; there’s plenty to go around. Sadly, there’s no compensation for the more than 500,000 families who lost a loved one.

Trump could heal the nation right now by admitting that he lost the election and that it wasn’t rigged. He could sell that fact that there was no widespread fraud, and that Joe Biden is the rightful president. He could urge people to wear a mask until they get the shot and urge his followers to get vaccinated, just like he and his wife secretly did. He won’t do any of that because he doesn’t give a shit about America. Speaking of which, Donald John Trump’s value as a human being is basically that of a dried-up elephant turd. Should I think of something harsher, I’ll share.

HERD IMMUNITY

Another Trump Distortion

My father grew up on a farm and my younger brothers helped out there during their high school years. I used to say that farmer kids learn things city kids never do. For example, most farm kids know how reproduction works. It wasn’t the birds and the bees; they learned from the pigs and cows.

We are hearing our President talk about “herd mentality” and “herd immunity” as if they are interchangeable terms. He’s an idiot and knows nothing of the denotation or connotation of his own words. The utterances that tumble out of his mouth aren’t backed by thoughts, they are merely words, and this brings us to a huge problem in our country right now.

Before starting, here are the denotative boundaries for this discussion. Herd immunity occurs when enough people or animals become immune to a disease to make its spread unlikely. Understanding when herd immunity has been achieved is science, requiring the same kind of disciplines as creating medicines and vaccines.

Connotatively, the term “herd immunity” reduces human beings to the level of farm animals. Decades ago, cattle ranchers believed herd immunity was a solution for bovine brucellosis, an infectious bacterial disease. Farmers and ranchers, often with the help of veterinarians from the US Department of Agriculture, blood-tested every animal they owned to discover, trace and isolate the disease’s source and control its spread.

Many European countries had to deal with mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), a transmissible, slowly progressive, degenerative and fatal disease affecting the central nervous systems of adult cattle. The ranchers employed surveillance, culled sick animals and banned bovine meat products from their feed. Cows are vegetarian, not cannibals, so their diets do not normally include meat. What did farmers do when they found cows having the virus? They KILLED THEM.

It’s patently clear that Donald Trump, Dr. Scott Atlas, Senator Rand Paul and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have no idea what they are talking about in terms of herd immunity. First, we are not going to kill people and burn their bodies should they test positive for COVID-19. Okay, sick joke here, but who would pay for that? Seriously, these goofballs are using the term “herd immunity,” blissfully ignorant that enacting such a plan requires the execution of human beings. This survival of the fittest routine is rather Darwinian, even by Republican standards.

My head exploded when I read the following in The Lancet, the highly respected medical journal, “Studies in June and July cast doubt on prospects for herd immunity: despite months of exposure, antibody surveys found a low seroprevalence,” less than 10%, in cities in Spain and Switzerland.” Commentators in The Lancet concluded that, ”In light of these findings, any proposed approach to achieve herd immunity through natural infection is not only highly unethical, but also unachievable.” *Seroprevalence is the level of a pathogen in a population, as measured in blood serum.

Unfortunately, Americans tend to collect and hold onto buzz words and catch phrases more than they do facts. The goofballs are trying to pull off their greatest lie yet, that somehow it might be better to let the virus “run its course” rather than fighting it head on with science, testing, tracing and a national plan. For months and months, we have heard about the forthcoming “great solution” but no one has presented a reasonable plan of action.

Some of our older readers may remember a hairbrained idea that was bounced around during the HIV/AIDS crisis. It suggested that those having the disease should be shipped to a deserted island. The trouble is, we tried that before with another misunderstood ailment. Until 1969, Hawaiian law allowed leprosy sufferers to be forcibly moved to the islands’ leprosy settlement where, over the years, more than 8,000 patients lived. The sad truth is, Leprosy continues to infect more than 215,000 people globally each year and there is no proof that isolation works. The dark side of HIV/AIDS included discussions about culling the population by execution of those with the virus.

Dangerous Enabler

People like X-Ray doctor Scott Atlas and eye doctor Senator Rand Paul challenge the VIRUS experts and think they know more, when the frontline scientists are openly willing to admit that they don’t know everything. These politician jerks are wasting our time. Every time I hear Rand Paul challenge Dr. Fauci, I can’t discern the point he is trying to make. Paul’s mission seems to be discrediting rather than seeking knowledge.

I’m tired of all this nonsense. Let me say it clearly, “herd mentality” will kill people. “Herd immunity,” by its very nature, will kill people. Let’s work on less death, fewer infections and keep pressing on with the known, scientific methods of mitigation. To be bold and direct, it’s time for Trump, Atlas, Paul and DeSantis to SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Okay, let me put my mask on.

THE FAUCI FACTOR

Trump’s White House… from Hell

Imagine that all media decided to cover a young boy who was born with a brain without the bridge of nerve fibers called the corpus callosum. As you probably know, each side of the brain controls the other side of the body, and the separate halves of the brain provide different aspects of emotion and thinking.

A callosal disconnection syndrome manifests itself when information cannot be directly shared between the two hemispheres of the brain. Split-brain patients display unusual behaviors, particularly concerning speech and object recognition. If blindfolded and given a familiar object, a person with disconnected brain sides cannot verbalize what it is because that side of their brain receives no messaging about touch. Maybe that is what is going on with Donald Trump.

This weekend, the Trump administration, much like a mafia family, has decided to trash Dr. Anthony Fauci’s reputation. Why? May I remind our readers that Fauci isn’t some guy they grabbed off the street, he’s a physician and immunologist and has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. He’s also one of the lead members of the Trump Administration’s White House Coronavirus Task Force. Trump must be dreaming about Space Force (I call it Space Farce) because he certainly is ignoring his Task Force. Discrediting Dr. Fauci is a bizarre and stupid stunt to promote Trump’s anti-science cult.

While we are debating the safe reopening or our schools, the President of the United States had his team publish a list of some early statements that Fauci made about the virus that turned out to be incorrect. This organized harassment of a government employee is outrageous, and perhaps a violation of labor law, but as we all know Trump believes he is above the law. Imagine taking everything Trump has said over the last four years and putting them to the test of retroactive 20/20 vision. Well, someone does just that, the Washington Post reports, “In 1,267 days, President Trump has made 20,055 false or misleading claims.”

When the coronavirus first appeared in America and the stock market had its first major dip in response, I asked my accountant, almost with tongue in cheek, “Are we selling or buying today?” He responded that we had nothing to worry about because a friend of his who works at the CDC in Atlanta told him the virus would magically disappear when the weather got warmer. Well, that was not true, but I didn’t hold it against him because the comment was made with the available information he had at the time. Donald’s cherry picking of Fauci’s statements made with early optimism and using them against him makes me feel like our President is trying to blame Fauci for the whole virus mess. In fact, Trump didn’t act on most of what his experts were telling him and he’s been undermining the truth all along.

So far, Trump has blamed the World Health Organization, Obama empty stockpiles (this after more than three years into his own administration), others somewhere in his White House for getting rid of the pandemic team that Obama left in place, China, and now he’s making a ridiculous contention that COVID-19 is a Democratic plot against his reelection as he throws Dr. Fauci under the bus. Okay, but what about all the dead people, Donald Dickhead? THIS JUST IN, in the new John Bolton book, he admits he was the one who merged the chemical-biological warfare threat people withe the pandemic watchers. Bolton claims the team worked well, it was the empty chair behind the resolute desk that was the problem. The White House appears to be Blame Academy.

We are well above 135,000 deaths from the virus and Trump is now running around and blackmailing school districts with threats of defunding them if they don’t open. While people are sick and suffering, our President is screaming about Confederate statues. Maybe we should erect a statue on the north lawn of the White House depicting two young Black men hanging from a tree with a plaque describing the depiction as part of our southern heritage. Let’s see how long that would last. Trump is so on the wrong side of history. Did we elect George Wallace?

George Wallace, Racist

Back to Fauci, let’s stop this painful review of what he’s done or not done and plan how to fix this problem and get our country back. Maybe Donald Trump and his puppet states — Georgia, Florida, Texas and Arizona — should make a list of the things that Trump said and all the steps he didn’t take to create the disaster they are now suffering through. Trump is a total failure with the global pandemic and he knows it. He’s lashing out at Fauci because of encouragement from Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson. WTF?

Here’s a hypothetical. What if Trump was offered a deal with the devil? Beelzebub might present it this way, “Great Orange Leader, I can end the virus right now but Fox News, One America News Network and all other right-wing media outlets would instantly disappear forever.” Trump would not take that deal. He would walk away and then tweet endlessly about how the devil is unfair and has always been a “never Trumper.” Our President doesn’t need the devil. He has access to experts with answers, but his ideological blindfold prevents him from grasping the solution so close to his hands. He cannot see and cannot comprehend. Just open the schools and let kids and teachers die, I guess.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is not the enemy, Donald Trump is. Those around him in the White House say yes, yes, yes and yes while kissing his plump posterior. It’s diabolical that a public official with power over the people would put them in harm’s way. Trump’s preposterous proposition to throw kids, teachers and administrators back in school is nothing short of a giant virus experiment. Maybe the man should pick just one state and open all its schools to test his theory that it wouldn’t be dangerous. Which state would step into that political puddle of mud? Oh, yeah, Georgia, Florida, Texas or Arizona. Wake up, America! Can’t you see that Trump is willing to kill even more of you for his own political gain?

Where is the Task Force? Why aren’t they on TV? Where is Congress? Why aren’t they stepping up and doing something? At least the Judicial Branch is sort of working, but Trump is not listening to anyone. He’s playing a fucked up game in which the losers will die. It’s too late for Donald Trump. We cannot connect both sides of his malignant, festering brain. He needs something harsher than being thrown out of office. How about a trial? If found guilty the punishment would be one day in prison for each of his lies? That would be 55 years, but Mike Pence would just commute that sentence. They both must go, ASAP!

INVESTIGATE THIS TRAVESTY

Why are we not better prepared?

When there is a mass shooting in America, we hear some people, mostly Republicans and Second Amendment supporters say, “There will be time to talk about what to do after we mourn the deaths.” The reality is we never get around to discussing why something bad happened and how to prevent it from happening again in the future.

This global pandemic has pushed over walls and across borders and we are hearing lots of good advice, stats and opinions from the White House pandemic task force. What we aren’t hearing is clear plans, specific messages or truthful observations from the President. Trump seems unwilling and unable to go full force on this crisis, and for the life of me I don’t understand why he’s creating conflict and disagreement when the facts are so clear.

Yes, he’s trying to calm the country and, according to some early surveys and polls, he appears to be getting slightly better grades as it pertains to this pandemic. The problem is he has a blind spot in his brain that keeps him from seeing things clearly. During a task force briefing the other day, Trump talked about the importance of borders and his wall. He bragged about how much of the wall has been built, neglecting to say it was at the expense of the Department of Defense and Homeland Security purchasing much more critically needed medical equipment to protect America’s citizens and military.

New York Times

Trump sees everything through the eyes of a landowner with the kind of territorial greed that infects many myopic managers. He’s pushing a narrative that he can reopen the country piece-by-piece, easing or eliminating restrictions in less vulnerable counties and Zip Codes. Really? So, we will open less vulnerable areas to make them more vulnerable? The man has no logic.

Donald Trump doesn’t believe in global economic principals. He doesn’t understand the need for migrant workers and how American agriculture works. His lack of knowledge about global trade caused the bad decision to place tariffs on China, which seriously hurt our country’s soybean farmers.

His harangue about stopping flights from China “early on” is more boast and less fact. According to the AP, “Most major airlines had already suspended flights to China prior to the announcement on Jan. 31, following the lead of several major international carriers that had stopped due to the coronavirus outbreak.” Donald was reacting to their actions, not the warnings from the World Health Organization.

We know that members of Congress, from both parties, used insider information on the coming crisis to enrich themselves by selling million of dollars of stock before the crash. We know that Trump was given briefings and suggestions that this could happen to our country. We need to call those people to Capitol Hill, place them under oath and have them tell the American people what was said and which pieces that Trump ignored. I hate to say this right now, but it’s not too late to consider his removal from office because he has placed American lives at risk. Maybe it’s too late for another Senate trial, but the 25th Amendment is always there as a safeguard.

The real COVID-19 problem began because Trump was in the dark. His “great relationship” with President XI of China didn’t stop that country keeping vital information from us, which caused more harm. The President deals with his ineptitude by casting blame on the media, the Democrats, China and what he keeps saying was a “broken system.” We need to ask this President, hopefully under oath, why he didn’t fix the broken system then and why he isn’t fixing it now. He’s been in power for almost four years. Oh, that’s right, he was too busy golfing to get around to public health.

Trump is being enabled by poorly informed governors and far right radicals who don’t believe in climate change and who put their faith in the holy words of scripture rather than the intelligence and guidance of learned experts. My theory is that several state leaders in places like Florida, Missouri and Mississippi are afraid of saying or doing anything that will anger Donald Trump. This is malfeasance of the highest order. Learning that Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky might stop the approval of the Coronavirus Rescue Bill precisely demonstrates how our entire country can be harmed by one person. It’s interesting that one person is not Donald Trump this time. The good news is that no member of the House seconded Massie’s selfish need and the measure passed. Now it goes to Trump, who must sign it.

The harsh reality is Trump is basking in his power and grandstanding. He stupidly claims people in local communities are not accurate with their dire need of equipment. How can Trump go on TV and say that he feels that requests for ventilators are overblown? He keeps saying that he “feels” this way or that way, basing his judgements on nebulous impressions with absolutely no proof or facts. Why should the nation’s health be hijacked by Donald John Trump? Put a stopwatch on his comments and you’ll learn that about, 70% of his narrative involves the economy and why that will drive his premature opening of the country. I’m confused, I thought we were at war with a virus.

Yes, it’s too early to talk about an investigation but it’s not too early for all of us to question Trump’s moves and ask him about his true motivation. He peppers his press conferences with xenophobic troupes, vindictive stabs and false promises. It’s painfully not funny to hear experts on TV advising viewers to “STOP LISTENING TO TRUMP!” They say, “This too shall pass,” and America will come out of this. I repeat my mantra, “We are in this together,” but I would feel a whole lot better if Donald J. Trump was totally out of the equation. We don’t have time to waste listening to his abdication of accountability and his constant blame-pushing on others. A question from one of the news anchors to the administration really broke through, “Please explain why this White House was so woefully unprepared for this?” It’s the very reason we will need an investigation of Trump, his people and the true cause of this tragic breakdown.

New Book About America

The book that tells it like it is…

Gold, God, Guns & Goofballs shows how we’ve wasted our GOLD on bad wars and corruption. While GOD is there for many people as a spiritual enrichment and the provider of glowing feelings, the truth is just praying and believing will not change our major arc. We don’t determine who gets a GUN. We aren’t sure if we have paramilitary groups ready to storm the White House or a White Castle. There is no control of weapons. The GOOFBALLS with the power constantly try to manipulate us into spending more money on bombs and tanks and wars. When all of our institutions are infected with neglect and fall in disrepair, we will only have ourselves to blame. This book is not an antidote for the left or right, it’s an accelerant to move the middle off their collective asses to go do something positive for America.
