Trump’s Fork in the Road
There is something disconcertingly obvious about how history repeats itself. I never liked Clarence Thomas, not because he seemed to be an angry African-American back in 1991, but because he lied and his judgements are purely political. And now we have another up for a job-for-life on the Supreme Court who, on the surface, also appears to be a liar.
Whatever “deep-state” plan there was to appoint a very conservative black judge on the bench of the highest court back then, I care not. But what we witnessed almost 30 years ago at the Thomas senate hearing was a group of senators who verbally protected a man by second guessing a woman. Now you might say that what Clarence Thomas did was no more than run of the mill sexual harassment in that era. From time to time, however, Supreme Court judges must evaluate things from where they sit on the high court. Thomas should have never been elevated to the Supreme Court.
But the biggest embarrassment for America is the current president of the United States. Just look at this tweet from 9-21-2018, “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!” Donald J. Trump, if at any company in America, would be setting the firm up a major law suit for creating a hostile environment. All the president’s men and women quoted in Bob Woodward’s book are right. He’s a fucking moron.
Why no Republican women on the Senate committee? The eleven white male members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are, Chuck Grassley, Iowa, Chairman, Orrin Hatch, Utah, Lindsey Graham, South Carolina. John Cornyn, Texas, Mike Lee, Utah, Ted Cruz, Texas. Ben Sasse, Nebraska, Jeff Flake, Arizona, Mike Crapo, Idaho. Thom Tillis, North Carolina and John Kennedy, Louisiana.
I consider some of the men there nothing more than catheter bags and see no reason for them to be serving in Congress, let alone being on this committee. They are like what Trump would become if he could serve for life. O.M.G. Are you thinking “term-limits?”
Lindsey Graham has never been married, so I doubt he could judge anything about a relationship between a man and woman. Read into that whatever you want. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and John Cornyn have their underwear so tightly twisted around their ideological excrement, I cannot believe anything they would decide would be good for all of America.
Jeff Flake and Ben Sasse seem to be reasonable people, but when given a little zap from the Republican cattle prod they both fall right into line. John Kennedy is a character with a deep-south downhome way of expressing himself, but don’t be fooled by his name. His blood runs red and he’s no Atticus Finch.
I have nothing against people getting old, but there must come a time when a person is too old to drive a car. Chuck Grassley, the chairperson of this committee, tries hard to keep things moving, but he’s 85 years old and nothing more than a tool of the good-ole boy network of the Senate. Then there’s Orrin Hatch, who is 84 and the longest-serving Republican Senator in U.S. history. It is my opinion that Grassley and Hatch should retire today at 12 noon and so we can get some Republican women on that committee.
When Orrin Hatch was asked about the accusations from a woman who says that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when they were teenagers, he showed his lack of clarity of thought. Hatch said the woman alleging assault when they were in high school must be “mistaken” and, even if the accusation is true, Kavanaugh is a “good man” and “senators should judge who he is now.” Orrin Hatch said that Christine Blasey Ford is “… mistaking something, but I don’t know, I mean, I don’t know her.”
Why would he even say that? In a court of law, he would be thrown off the jury. If he was a judge and made that comment, he would be forced to recuse himself. After he made that statement, why would he still have a vote in this matter? I will be disappointed if one of the Democrat women don’t ask for his recusal.
America has always been 50% female but they have had to scratch and claw their way to get respect. People like Sarah Palin have not helped the cause of women in politics. Anita Hill has. Are we going to believe women, or just have these eleven white men send our “women folk” back to the kitchen and stay-at-home status? We could use a few less penises on the Judiciary Committee.
Some men have moved on since 1991. Even Joe Bidden admits that, as chairman of the committee during the Anita Hill testimony, he was part of the problem. But you must gasp at the fact that Orrin Hatch is still one of the eleven angry men on the committee. What the hell are they angry about? Oh, yeah, it’s #MeToo.
It’s too late for Orrin Hatch. His only redeeming quality is that he was born in Pittsburgh, but then a lot of people can say that. He’s over the hill and half way down the drain. It won’t be too soon (January 3, 2019) until Utah puts Mitt Romney in that seat. At least we will then get a modern man with reasonable positions.
Back to the subject at hand. We will learn more next week about Brett Kavanaugh. Perhaps he will be able to lie better than he did about talking to Trump’s law firm and whether he used stolen memos when he worked for George W. Bush. Dr. Ford will have her day in court, and those eleven white men better behave or they could drive more suburban women to the polls in November.
I am sure we can count on the eleven white men to do the right thing despite the fact they have such a terrible role model in the REPUBLICAN President of the United States. Our Great Orange Leader doesn’t sleep in the same room as his spouse and he doesn’t use protection when having sex with porn stars. He seems more attracted to his daughter than his wife and, when confronted about alleged infidelity or sexual harassment, he simply denies it and walks away. His derriere is certainly bigger than his heart. Honesty is not a word you would ever use to describe Donald J. Trump. He’s merely a foolish man who built his house on lies.
When did America become so tainted by male chauvinism and old school male dominance? Oh yeah, when we elected a pig president. Oink! Oink!
