OPEN LETTER TO THE WORLD

Short Memories, Botched Bravery

Words go only so far when dealing with a short man who carries a Napoleon complex and a need for cruelty. The President of Russia is a thug and a terrorist. He has committed war crimes and it’s not a push to say that he, and he alone, has wreaked genocide in Ukraine. His psychological transmission of machismo, with videos of hockey playing and riding a horse with his shirt off, proves what we’ve known all along. His control over others is desperately needed to stoke a sense of stature in his own mind. He resents any person, country or ideology saying he’s nothing but a mean, vindictive human with the same flaws as Hitler.

We marched to the drum of justice and democracy after World War II and we spoke out loud the words “Never again,” but now it’s happening again and we stand silent, just like we did at the close of the 1930s. We stood inactive when the genocide happened in Darfur. Hundred of thousands of people were murdered and all we could do was make movies about the tragedy. In Syria, ten years of war left at least 350,000 dead, and the so-called leader there had no problem bombing and gassing his own people to put down a revolution. Bashar al-Assad is an immoral dictator who, like Putin, doesn’t care about human rights or genocide when advancing his political agenda.

Every free country of the world watching the constant bombardment of Ukraine on TV stands by the men, women and children murdered by Putin. Why can’t the world unite against this horrible abuse of power? Assuming Putin is bluffing about the use of his nuclear power, what are we waiting for? Would it make a difference if Putin was marching into Poland, just like Hitler did? When do we just say “NO” to this unhinged lunatic?

The Russian people must share some blame. After all, they voted for this maniac, maybe out of fear or maybe the election was fixed, but they are allowing Putin to wage this war. Then again, they are being fed a pile of bullshit propaganda and might not know the truth, or maybe masterful Mr. Putin has brainwashed them into believing this stain on their history is good for Russia. Nationalism, as we have seen here, produces so much misinformation and lies that push Pinocchio’s proboscis to a length that could impress a wooden prostitute.

The tragedy in Ukraine will continue until someone ends Vladmir Putin and his illusion of power and right. He’s not going to support any reasoning or compromise, because this is his last chance of getting it up on the world’s stage. While he waves his fake communism and exists as a full-fledged Russian fascist, the entire world is being lazy. Maybe it’s time we declare war against the bastard. I mean war against the person, not the country. Could that be worth a try?

Czar Nicholas II

Putin thinks he’s a Czar and has changed the Constitution of the Russian Federation so he can remain in power forever. Who let this happen? I’ll tell you who; fearful, limp representatives who know deep down inside that were they to rebuke Putin they would be shot, poisoned or sent to a labor camp to die. The United Nations should vote Russia out. It’s shameless they have the power to veto any measure that body brings to the world. You cannot give the fox the combination to the lock on the hen house. If there are more sanctions to impose on Putin, what the fuck are we waiting on?

Putin’s army has the wherewithal to destroy a culture, a country and its people. Why are we letting him do this? We were afraid of Hitler and allowed him to take over the world before raising a finger. We waited too long with Hitler, and we are waiting too long with Putin. Just the other day I heard this phrase on TV, “The US will be sending in advisors to help train the Ukraine army.” REALLY?

Let me remind you, “In September 1950, US President Harry Truman sent the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) to Vietnam to assist the French in the First Indochina War.” Our involvement always starts with sending advisors, then a few special operations people are ordered in to, you know, help the CIA. Next, we’ll send a few thousand; it’s already been written.

Hey WORLD, wake up and take note. When a country’s leader gives an order to bomb a maternity hospital, he’s not worthy of his position. A leader who shells their own people is immoral and certainly God should intervene, but he hasn’t. Why?

I suggest that if everyone in the world prayed to God to end this war and eliminate Vladimir Putin, not a damn thing would change. When faith or an allegiance to a supreme being doesn’t make the world a better place, we must act. Who gave Putin the power to kill thousands of people?

While we all sit watching TV and feeling badly, the madman continues killing. It’s time to act. We must get involved. If not, then no one is safe in the world. This is definitely worse than global warming.

INCEST AND RAPE

Legal Loophole for Both

I don’t know about you, but I believe those who perpetrate the crimes of incest or rape are far beyond immoral. Why would any state legislature, let alone US lawmakers, dilute the punishment of either crime? You may be puzzled by that statement, but that’s exactly what states are doing with their anti-abortion laws. Let’s back up and consider a few things.

Take a few moments to read what the Encyclopedia Britannica says about rape during war: “The rape of women by soldiers during wartime has occurred throughout history. Indeed, rape was long considered an unfortunate but inevitable accompaniment of war — the result of the prolonged sexual deprivation of troops and insufficient military discipline. Its use as a weapon of war was gruesomely demonstrated during World War II, when both Allied and Axis armies committed rape as a means of terrorizing enemy civilian populations and demoralizing enemy troops. Two of the worst examples were the sexual enslavement of women in territories conquered by the Japanese army and the mass rape committed against German women by advancing Russian soldiers.”

Rapists of Moscow

Now we are seeing Russian troops raping in Ukraine. We are quick to call such behavior a war crime, and indeed, with accurate proof, it is. Most United States police departments take rape seriously. After an alleged sexual assault, good policing includes a visit to a hospital and deployment of a rape kit to gather evidence. Although incest is prosecuted less in America, it’s still a heinous crime and any person inflicting such physical and emotional pain on a child should be held accountable.

Each state has its own set of rules and penalties for those who commit such atrocious acts but one thing is certain, there has been a change in attitude toward rapists in America. In most states, a woman has the right to terminate a pregnancy caused by rape.

According to the End Sexual Violence website, “Sexual violence occurs on a continuum of complex and difficult crimes having devastating impacts on victims. According to the United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics, only 31% of rapes are reported to law enforcement. The term ’forcible rape‘ is used in the Uniform Crime Report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to report incidents of rape and is defined very narrowly excluding many forms of criminal sexual behavior. Use of the term ’forcible rape‘ in the Uniform Crime Report coupled with the underreporting of the crime has led to very limited statistical picture of sexual violence. Additionally, the term ’forcible rape‘ fails to track either federal or state law relating to sexual crimes.”

But wait, all rape is forceable. You are forcing yourself on someone who doesn’t want you. I have a feeling this is more a legal definition than a description social policy can be fixed on.  I think it has more to do with the victim being beaten or injured in the commission of the crime. Just because someone allows it to happen (which is what women are advised to do if they have hope of avoiding injury or death), does not mean they weren’t raped.

Healing the Incest Wound: Adult Survivors in Therapy is a book authored by Christine A. Courtois. In it she discusses rape based on force and power. “Prevalence is difficult to generalize, but research has estimated 10–15% of the general population as having at least one such sexual contact, with less than 2% involving intercourse or attempted intercourse. Among women, research has yielded estimates as high as 20%.”

The recently passed bills in Texas, Oklahoma and other red states prohibit the medical termination of a pregnancy with no exceptions, not even if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. In a sense, these poorly written laws are giving a pass to those who force themselves sexually on a woman or family member. It’s the ultimate erasure of women’s rights to their own bodies These laws legitimize the result of rape.

The justification for these errant laws is God has “blessed this union” simply because one of more of the rapist’s sperms caused conception. Who are these people who would convict the victim to a lifelong responsibility of raising the product of a vicious and violent act? And who dares speak for God? If a law prevents a woman who endured a forceful rape from taking the recourse of ending the ultimate form of unwanted pregnancy, then what have we become as a nation?

Any law forcing a young girl to endure a pregnancy that her father or brother brought on through a highly sinful and atrocious act goes against the grain of many Biblical parables. Remember, God ordered the death of a child for a person to prove their loyalty to God himself. Why wouldn’t you allow the death of an unborn fetus resulting from rape or incest? Wake up you legal misfits. You are not God and you shouldn’t prevent a woman disconnecting from her rapist with a simple and safe medical procedure.

If the Supreme Court cannot see the simple difference between an unwanted pregnancy and a pregnancy as evidence of a crime, then we are not the advanced society we claim to be. If you want to go back to the letter of the law of the Holy Bible, I challenge you to show me where it says rape is okay. If you are so draconian you believe that two-thousand years ago humans were without faults or deceptions, then tell me how a modern world of justice for all works.

On the surface, justice for a fetus might seem like a worthy legal pursuit, but if you are giving rapists and perverted family members a break, then you should take a good hard look in the mirror and ask this question, “If my daughter was raped, would I want the perpetrator to have parental rights to my grandchild?” If you answer yes, then you are the problem, not Planned Parenthood. And if no, then you understand that no person should have to be reminded of the pain and suffering of that event, every day of their life.

FLORIDA’S “DON’T SAY GAY” LAW

A sub-class created by fiat and dogma

When a new law is proposed, I put it through a three-pronged test to see if it makes sense. First, is this act or bill good for the majority of those who live within the jurisdiction? Second, is the intent of the proposal something different that what’s on the surface? Finally, if signed into law will the proposal hurt any one person or class of individuals?

That brings us to Florida House Bill 1557, which State Governor Ron DeSantis has now signed into law. When reporters asked about this so-called, “Don’t Say Gay” law, DeSantis snapped at them asking if they’ve read the bill. Notice that he takes this afront personally by constantly reminding that the new law does not disallow use of the word “gay,” but let’s get back to those three tests.

This bill is cloaked in an invalid paranoia that parents have lost their rights over their children. There is a stack of specific federal and state laws that clearly detail what parents can and cannot do with their minor children. I’m a retiree living in the state of Florida. I don’t have kids in the school system, but I do pay taxes for its operation, and I see no possible good that can come from this law. And let’s be clear, these are mandates in a state where over the past two years Ron DeSantis’ whiny mouth kept telling us how mandates are bad. The man even sold “Don’t Fauci Florida” T-shirts to fatten his campaign treasure chest.

Florida’s Governor seems to be against everything the federal government stipulates, but sees no problem imposing his personal viewpoints, beliefs and values on the state’s citizens. This is tantamount to the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” laws instituted by the military years ago, which have now been erased by the common acceptance of various sexual orientations among human beings. What is the true purpose of this law? How does it help the majority of Floridians?

When I put it under the microscope of reason and logic, I see this new law isn’t about kids at all, and it’s even less empowering for their parents. It’s a power grab by the panhandlers in the northern part of the state and Tallahassee to give MORE POWER to the State’s Commissioner of Education, who seems to be totally controlled by the Governor instead of the people. By giving the Commissioner the right “to appoint a special magistrate for unresolved concerns,” DeSantis has crafted a way to dilute a parent’s legal authority to protect their kids.

Should you have any doubt about the meaning of this new law, the following is an excerpt. Read on… The Special Magistrate is an attorney and member of the Florida Bar who is appointed by the state to preside over code enforcement matters. The special magistrate shall have all the authority and powers set forth in this part or in F.S. § 162.08, which states, this special magistrate will,

(1) Adopt rules for the conduct of its hearings.

(2) Subpoena alleged violators and witnesses to its hearings. Subpoenas may be served by the sheriff of the county or police department of the municipality.

(3) Subpoena evidence to its hearings.

(4) Take testimony under oath.

(5) Issue orders having the force of law to command whatever steps are necessary to bring a violation into compliance.

So, the state has just taken away the rights of parents and any and all LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS to guide their children and handed the parents and the kids over to a state appointed attorney, who might have no children. How is this reasonable or good? BTW, many states already had this procedure in place, but were those states studied?

When questioned about why something is positive for the community and challenged by what he claims is the far left “woke movement,” Ron DeSantis typically ends the discussion with, “I don’t care what they think!” This guy truly doesn’t care and bluntly says so. He sees any opinion or concern that doesn’t align with his as WRONG.

Does this new law hurt anyone? Florida’s HB 1557 has codified a broad class of people, including lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered, with a biased brush stroke that now makes it against the law for any educator, teacher, parent or student to discuss their sexual orientations. Think about that. This hurts human beings in general. Remember that a gay child or a child’s gay parents are human beings, not a sub-class. Sadly, I am not sure the government of Florida, with its gerrymandered Republican and white majority of powerbrokers, really cares about hurting people. Their focus is having power, keeping that power, and imposing their values and dogma on everyone else. There is no compromise or comprehension with people they consider beneath them.

DeSantis’ exposes his shame by pushing back so hard when someone suggests it’s a “Don’t say Gay” law. This educated politician knows deep down inside this law is wrong, and he hates when anyone calls it out for what it is. The true test of lanugae is to ask, if you discuss the state of mind of being “gay” is that okay? Ron DeSantis insists the law isn’t “Don’t Say Gay” legislation, but the language “prohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in certain grade levels or in a specific manner…” So, it’s now a crime in the state of Florida to say GAY, because that word, as well as lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism, are off the table. It’s true the law is limited to parents and educators of kids in K through third grade, but the door is open just wide enough to allow the commissioner and his or her magistrate to bust anyone discussing “sexual orientation.”

I hate to be a pedantic and “woke” truthteller, but this is a poorly written law and DeSantis, who claims to be a brilliant lawyer, should have seen that from the start. I am a straight, male, heterosexual, but, now in the state of Florida, you cannot talk about my orientation. Yes, one cannot have a discussion in Florida classrooms about men and woman who get married and have babies. You dumb bastards have used general language to keep this law on the right side of Jesus, while eliminating YOUR SIDE. I hope the potential court challenges against this new law go forward. Should the law’s proponents attempt to “improve” it by using discriminatory and specific language, they will truly find themselves on the wrong side of the law and history.
