Trump’s Distraction from Impeachment

Why do we think that leaders will tell us the truth when they enact something extreme such as an assassination? No one has solved the Kennedy assassination. No one has told the truth about the Jamal Khashoggi hit job. We know more about the murders of President Lincoln and President McKinley than we do about what happened in Iraq last week. Why is that?

We might learn Iran shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet that departed Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran on the night of the Iranian retaliation, but we will never get a straight answer from Donald Trump and the gang of liars he has assembled. And what’s up with all the strange statements coming from the Pentagon, Pence and the President? Is this all part of a giant coverup?

Let’s take a closer look at the ongoing misdirect orchestrated by the White House. When something extreme happens, it seems a bunch of people get together and talk about what they can say to make something illegitimate seem valid. Then they transmit the talking points to as many allies as possible, so that everyone can be on the same page. But this breaks down when people feel like they are being used and it’s too obvious that their leaders are clueless, lying or both.

Two members of the Senate, Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky, are known libertarians with a conservative bent and both opposed vocally to the approach Trump and his sycophants are taking. Mike Lee took to the microphones after the highly secret security briefing to let it be known that he wasn’t at all happy. He said it was the worst military briefing he’s witnessed in his nine years in Congress. Lee said the officials warned that Congress would “embolden” Iran if lawmakers debated Trump’s war powers and he added, “I find this insulting and demeaning to the office that each of the 100 senators in this building happens to hold. I find it insulting and demeaning to the Constitution of the United States.” It would be good to mention here that Mike Lee is a Republican. He went on, “I find that absolutely insane. I think that’s unacceptable.”

Reporters and those running the company line on almost starting a war with Iran ask dissenters, “What would you’ve done?” The answer is this tired, old redirect. Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani was a bad guy and it’s good that he’s off the battlefield. No one has asked this. If we knew Soleimani was in Iraq, and we knew where he was going, why didn’t we just surround him, arrest him and bring him to the Hague to face a war crime tribunal? He might have told the world why he did what he did and then we could all better understand what the world is facing. This is precisely why we always try to take a mass shooter alive.

The plain truth is Donald Trump wanted to do something that would make his base love him more and he killed someone to enrich himself. His brainwashed followers are like the illiterates who support a despot in third-world countries. Until Donald Trump’s three sons sign up for military duty, most “never Trumpers” will continue to disrespect him.

Let’s now look at what happened in Iraq after a US drone took out Soleimani. The Supreme Leader in Iran rattled his sword and promised big retaliation against the “great Satan” America. So, it was no big surprise when we saw rockets glowing in the sky above two Iraqi bases housing US and coalition troops, Al Assad and one in Erbil, Iraq. But wait, we know more.

It seems that under an Islamic moral obligation, Iran told the Iraqi government where and when the attacks were to take place. And judging by the precision of those strikes, they specifically hit areas that would not have affected ongoing use of the bases. I am no military expert, but the ballistic missiles took no lives and did no crucial damage. Really? Was this an exercise for their defense department, or just a way to show the accuracy of their weaponry?

The propaganda out of Iran is remarkable. The Leaders there claim that dozens of Americans were killed and that they have slapped the United States. One commentator said it best, “Slap on the face, not really, more like a slap on the wrist.” Trump painted a picture that helped the stock market recover from possible panic, but he made it seem like Iran was standing down after launching missiles at our bases. WTF? Is Trump in league with the Iraqi leaders to let the assassination stand without any international investigation? Was this a pre-arranged revenge stunt?

Mike Pence, Trump’s professional liar, said on the NBC Today Show that the administration believes Iran was trying to kill our troops. Okay, if that is true then why wouldn’t we stick with Trump’s promise to retaliate if any US interest or person was put in harm’s way? When Pence was asked why we didn’t thwart the attack we knew was coming, he pushed the question aside with this fabricated answer.

Pence also doubled down on the amazing myth that the killing of Soleimani has made the world a safer place. Really? Right after you kill him, you order all US personnel out of that country, the FAA imposes a no-fly zone in the region, and you send thousands of troops there. It’s more than baffling, it’s the unfocused and thoughtless methods of a bumbling executive and commander in chief who automatically puts his minions in circumvention mode. And if one could draw a line between the Iranian militia’s actions in Iraq, with the killing of the Iranian General, the retribution of missiles fired into Iraqi airbases and then the shooting down of an Ukrainian jetliner, our actions are responsible for the death of 176 people. We made the place less safe for people not involved in the conflict. Let’s hope that some strong thinkers in Congress are seeing right through this deception.

In matters of war, a President must be honest, direct and open with the American public. Without the peoples’ trust — all the people — we are just another banana republic with our Constitution next to the shredder. Donald Trump cannot be trusted with the nuclear codes. Macron’s Statesmanship vs. Trump’s Incoherence

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, is the son of a physician and a professor of neurology. Macron was an assistant to a famous philosopher in his early years and he was an editor for a literary magazine. One of Macron master’s theses was on Machiavelli and Hegel, and he has a master’s degree in “Public Guidance and Economy.” But what propelled Macron to the top job in France was his expertise as an investment banker. While working his way through the banking system he amassed power and influence. To be succinct, he’s an extremely intelligent man of letters and degrees. Imagine what is going through his mind when he sits down with imbecile Trump.

During the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Summit being held in the UK this week, Trump decided to attack President Macron. When asked about Macron’s comment last month that American indifference to the alliance is leading to the “brain death of NATO,” the Donald barked that those comments were “very insulting” and “nasty.” Trump took the bait hook, line and sinker and was forced to defend NATO, something that is totally out of character for him.

Emmanuel Macron won this battle. He was saying that Trump is brain dead and our great white leader totally missed the point, the joke. When Trump asked Macron if he would like to take some ISIS fighters, Macron rebuked the 45th President with the retort, “Let’s be serious, here!” Trump believes that he is funny, but it’s dangerous to attempt comedy when trying to achieve diplomatic goals. Aside from the language barrier, there are times when you must not attempt to joke a problem away.

If the leader of America is to fulfil the desires of those who elected him to office, you would think he would be aware of how most people in the country think about issues like climate change. According to the Washington Post, “8 in 10 — say that human activity is fueling climate change, and roughly half believe action is urgently needed within the next decade if humanity is to avert its worst effects. Nearly 4 in 10 now say climate change is a ‘crisis,’ up from less than a quarter five years ago.” Why would the United States be the only major country in the world to officially ignore this research?

Macron doesn’t blur his disdain for Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Accord which created substantial goals to reduce emissions and pollution in the world. The reason Trump continually gives for pulling out of the deal makes no sense. The agreement wasn’t as binding as any trade agreement we have signed, so what is the real reason?

Something Trump said on the campaign trail plainly displays his idiocy and lack of knowledge. It was a climate change joke about China creating a hoax to gain economic advantage over America. His base responded with cheers and applause and later Trump baked his ignorance into US policy. People must wear masks just to go outside in Beijing. China is moving ahead of us by producing more solar panels and they have more people working on climate change initiatives there than the number of folks in this administration saying climate change doesn’t exist. Trump doesn’t take climate issues seriously. He never talks about them.

This is not merely a story about France and Trump. It’s a sad portrayal about how we have lost our position in global affairs. Trump has given Russia, North Korea and even China, a free hand to take power and exploit influence to higher levels. Don’t focus on Trump walking in front of the cameras at NATO; listen to the other guys. In them you witness well-crafted answers, statesmanship and intelligence, while Trump comes off as a total bullshit artist.

It’s refreshing hearing other leaders using the words “we” and “us,” rather than “me” and “I,” which dominate Trump’s speech. He cares not what his country is doing, it’s only about what he wants, does, thinks and decides. And when his clown car crashes into a wall, he never blames himself or apologizes for the mistakes he’s made. Therein exists his greatest lie. He sees himself as a perfect man with a “perfect call” and he truly believes he’s infallible. In reality, he embarrasses our country while on the international stage.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Is Impeachment Bad for Democracy?

There are many different opinions on what the founding fathers intended when they crafted the part of the Constitution that covers impeachment as a means to remove a president from office. The language is direct: The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

It is not a surprise that those conducting the impeachment inquiry are finally using the word “bribery” when accusing the president. For readers of the blog, you might remember that I urged the use of this term in this article.

Like a drunk coming out of a bar, half the public is under the influence of a cult fueled drug known in simpler times as “nationalism.” Ever the victim, Trump seeks to cast his own terrible state as the terrible state of a nation in a terrible state. If that sounds like Trump-speak, point made. The Donald tends to paint the impeachment aspect of our Constitution as some illegal, illegitimate action. Really?

While Trump professes his innocence, he’s blocking every meaningful witness in his administration from testifying. Clearly, Trump is doing everything he can to be the least transparent president in history. It’s a sad time when the court must determine whether people must appear before Congress. Why is Trump disrespecting the Constitution and its sacred words? Another cliché being tossed about is that all presidents attempt to stall and block Congress when they feel there is an overreach. While that is true, an impeachment is a sanctioned action and the only means to remove a President. It’s not against the law, it is the law.

The House of Representatives has the sole power to impeach a president. That isn’t the final word on whether a president is removed. Think of the House as a grand jury that brings charges to higher body, the Senate does the rest of the work. The ground rules: The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present.

The Senate is the only court that can remove a president, but then comes the decision to disqualify the person from holding an office in the future. And once a President is removed from office, he or she is then liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment. With many of the open indictments on Trump, he could be subject to arrest the minute he is removed from office. This is a very serious time for Donald J. Trump.

The problem with impeachment is that it could be used by an over-zealous political party in power. Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton knew that this aspect of the Constitution could be abused, but in the more than 240 years of American history it has rarely been used. The idea that the president would be a bad actor was only a slight concern for the founders, but it was feared enough for them to provide a remedy in this new democracy. Parliamentary governments can call votes of confidence at any time, which eliminates the need for impeachment. Some of those countries have royalty, who at their command can remove a sitting prime minister or president. The United States is not a monarchy.

The answer to the question is simple. Impeachment isn’t bad for democracy; impeachment is part of it. If we had faith that the people would always elect a respectable and wholesome statesman or woman to the post, we could eliminate impeachment, by why would we ever take such a chance? This is not a Republican or Democrat principle; it’s an American point of law — a law the President and Vice President, under oath, promised to protect and defend.

All that Trump is experiencing is the result of his lack of experience, inability to manage the larger aspect of his campaign, and a horrid collection of people who speak for him. He creates a communication void by repetitive use of slogans, rather than delivering cohesive thoughts and plans. It’s like half the country believed the pitch man with the monkey at the circus and were convinced to give all their money to the monkey. Some people think Trump is just goofing around and telling jokes, while the clear minded citizens are repulsed by this monkey masturbating in public.

Trump is a bad guy with no moral grounding, no empathy for real people and no capacity to handle the complexities of the office. George W. Bush might not have been a Rhoades Scholar, like Bill Clinton, but he was wired into the bureaucratic reality of Washington and the government. He lined up mostly good people and without a bad VP, Dick Cheney, he could have been a very good President. Barack Obama’s intelligence was never in question and is the real source of Trump’s insecurities. Without a conviction in the Senate, Trump will have to be voted out in the fall of 2020. It might be better if it happens that way, but our elected representatives would be neglecting their duty if they didn’t formally question this faulty executive. Trump is abusing his power and is a danger to the democracy. To make matters worse, the whole world is laughing at this embarrassment of a president.

One good aspect of the impeachment inquiry is that many Americans will learn more about how our government works. The public are seeing truthful people who work hard to keep America safe. Trump can be an isolationist all he wants, but that doesn’t stop America’s need to have people in embassies around the world and to conduct diplomacy that advances our interests.

Trump’s shakedown of South Korea for money to keep our troops there to help protect them against North Korea begs the question, whose side is President Trump on? He believes dictators and rough guys like Putin, Kim and Erdoğan, more than our own State Department and CIA. Who is this guy, this thug president? The clock is ticking.

A PERFECT CALL…

Perfect for Impeachment

We are seeing a clear pattern. Denying wrongdoing sends a message to any thinking person, “look at what is being denied.” There you will discover the infraction.

I was highly suspicious when the President of the United States said that his phone call shaking down a leader of another country for dirt on his political opponents was a “perfect call.” Let’s be clear. The involvement of any foreign country in our elections is not only highly unethical, it’s against the law. It is the very reason why Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation took place.

Bullshitters usually exaggerate and turn to hyperbole when they are caught in a lie. The easiest form of defense is to attack those who disclose a wrongdoing. We are far from “witch hunts” and “hoaxes,” as Donald Trump would like people to believe. This is a full blown coverup, and with each day we learn the president himself orchestrated this corrupt use of his office.

From his testimony, we learned that the National Security Council’s top Ukraine expert, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, tried to make changes to the White House’s rough transcript of the July phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President. Those changes never got into the summary and partial transcript. Making sure a transcript is accurate is one of Vindman’s responsibilities.

At some point during the call, Trump told Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky there were tapes of Biden. This part of the conversation was replaced with an ellipsis in the released transcript. The White House statement that the ellipsis did not represent missing words or phrases was a lie. Parts of the call where eliminated from the transcript before the text was moved to a special server. This is a cover up.

Many of the President’s tweets include ellipses. Could Trump have edited the partial transcript before it went out to the public? Maybe he keeps saying it was a “perfect call” because he sees it as a perfect crime. This is the same guy who used a sharpie to distort a weather map to cover his mistake about where a storm was headed. It’s clear that he drew the line. Everyone knows a sharpie is his writing and signing tool of choice. The evidence of his hand in the lie is obvious.

The Donald’s lies can easily be seen with the naked eye and he continually exposes himself with his words, actions and approaches. He’s nothing but a two-bit, sloppy street thug and bully without the knowledge, intelligence or moral core needed to lead America. He says the same things over and over, expecting people to believe him even when facts clearly show the opposite. All the smart people in Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, know that Trump is just a half-baked entertainer and con man. They see him as a fool while they attempt to exploit him for their party or own personal power. Those who backed Nixon to the end lost face, but they never lost their jobs. They just stopped talking about what they said before the impeachment.

Trump sounds like his unmanageable and malignant brain has been stuffed with endless lies by an evil hypnotist who has programmed him to endlessly repeat them. In a court of law, some of Trump’s comments about those testifying would be evidence of witness tampering and intimidation. Those behaviors are part of OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE and should be dealt with by Congress.

When Trump says he is the “most transparent President ever,” he is clearly lying. The weirdly bizarre thing about Trump is that he can’t use truth to his advantage. The press conference on the killing of Baghdadi had so many stupid, made up statements that it felt like a training video demonstrating how to spot a pathological liar and a person suffering from narcissistic personality disorder.

Trump trades in fear and hate, believing that secrets have magical powers to make him win. A thing is perfect when it is as good as it can possibly be. There is no way that the phone call with the Ukrainian President was perfect and the incomplete and the altered transcript plainly shows that. If Donald Trump doesn’t know the difference between something being “perfect” and something that is doing him harm, he is perfectly unqualified to be president.

Let me end with my deepest feelings about Trump. He’s a bad human being. He should not be president. America deserves a President who doesn’t lie. And when grown men and women keep saying how unfair things are, they should take their own advice and pull themselves up from their bootstraps and grow a pair.

TRAITOR TRUMP

Everything is Based on Lies

I never thought I would say this, but Donald Trump is a traitor. He’s working for himself and not for the benefit and security of this nation. He has betrayed his oath of office and, as I said in my book DONALD TRUMP: Repeal, Replace, Impeach (based on the first 200 days in office), everything he does is based on lies. If provable lies are not a violation of trust with the electorate, then what is?

Let’s review the oath all presidents take: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The phrase “faithfully execute” denotes loyalty to the country and the citizens who elected him. “Faithfully” is acting in a manner that is consistent with facts. So, when the President tells a lie to the country’s citizens he has committed a form of perjury. The offense of willfully telling an untruth in a court after having taken an oath or affirmation, is indeed perjury. In a sense, a president is under oath with every action on every day of their term.

Telling lies in the court of public opinion has never mattered to Trump, but what he’s doing now as president is an even larger crime, an action or omission that constitutes an offense that may be prosecuted by the state and is punishable by law. He put his hand on a Bible and said that he would protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. How is colluding with other nations to sway voters in this country protecting and defending? What are we waiting on? Does he have to burn the original Constitution on TV for Americas to come together and rid ourselves of this malevolent person?

Surely, we should never have to put a US President in front of a firing squad, but we certainly must use the provisions of law that give Congress the power to remove a bad President. I hate it when the typical Republican talking point is presented.. “You cannot impeach a president just because you don’t like him.” I want to look the speaker directly into their eyes and ask, “Can you tell me it’s okay for a president to lie to the American people about his desires to hurt other Americans?” Isn’t that a treacherous activity?

This morning (10-4-2019), former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci declared on CNN that the president is “a traitor to the United States and the most unamerican President we’ve had since Andrew Johnson.” For those who enjoy history repeating itself, Andrew Johnson was impeached by the House and narrowly won acquittal in the Senate trial. He was a terrible president that no one liked.

We now have text messages between Kurt Volker, Special Envoy to Ukraine, and officials there that confirm a quid pro quo between the White House and the new President in that country. To get a call, to get a visit invite and to receive military aid, Volodymyr Zelensky, schoolteacher-turned-actor and new President of Ukraine, was being PRESSURED to comply with the wishes of Donald Trump. And we now know, the president of our country was asking for Ukraine to release a statement that they were opening an investigation into Hunter and Joe Biden. The Ukrainian release was written, but didn’t see the light of day until now.

We can thank a loyal American whistleblower for bringing all this to light. And we need to have a united Congress to put this train-wreck-presidency behind us. It’s not erasing an election; it’s combating corruption in our own house. This president is a liar and traitor and he must be removed from office.

It’s time for the President and his family to release their tax returns. They must disclose if they have benefited from this presidency and whether they are beholden to another nation. Congress must pass a law that makes releasing tax returns a prerequisite for running for federal office. We must fortify our country from this ever happening again.

Republicans, this is no longer a joke to be waved away. Trump is a traitor and must be IMPEACHED! If nothing happens now, our democracy is at serious peril!

Trump’s Inability to Lead

Back in May of 2017, I used this same title on a blog post (See Here). And like a lightning bolt hitting the exact same spot, we find ourselves back at the beginning of this horrendous administration. During that 2017 event, administration lawyers attempted to cover-up the news that former General Michael Flynn could be compromised by his lies and activities.

In Warren Zevon’s classic song, Lawyers, Guns and Money, one line sticks out, “Send lawyers, guns, and money, the shit has hit the fan!” And for Trump, “it” seems to keep hitting the twirling reality of Washington. In many cases, the President picks the stuff up and throws it upon himself, like an orange orangutan.

Lawyers are important people. We have one in our family and they defend and work within the system to make sure injustices don’t fall on any human standing on our soil or acting on behalf of this country. What we see in this latest Trump fiasco is a failure to follow the principles of the legal profession. Rudy Giuliani is a lawyer who used guns and money to shake down the Ukrainian government.

Follow this logic. Giuliani is a lawyer. We assume, because he was a prosecutor in New York, that he is a member of the New York bar. His license to practice law will remain intact as long as he follows the rules and policies of that body. We do not know if Donald Trump has a contract with Rudy or if he’s paid him a retainer. Let’s assume Rudy is at least a little smart and not working for free. He has declared himself the President’s personal lawyer. By law, that means he may work on Trump’s personal business and affairs. As has been stated by the State Department, Mr. Giuliani does not speak for the US Government, meaning that he is not an agent of the United States and probably does not have security clearance. Giuliani is acting on behalf of Donald Trump, personally.

This brings us to other kinds of attorneys. There are counsellors to the White House who are part of the government. They decided to move politically damaging meeting notes from one server to another one. They acted on the justification that they were protecting the President. They broke a law while working for Trump and, without a whistleblower complaint, they might have gotten away with it. Trump is the boss of the White House and he has admitted that lawyers attempted to hide the text of that call from others. It was not a top-secret document and was eventually released by the Donald, himself. This is much like the bygone Watergate era, when White House insiders admitted that the president recorded all of his Oval Office calls.

Lawyers sometime get rendered speechless by a client’s unknowing confession to a crime. By talking so much on TV, I suggest that Rudy Giuliani has caused more harm to Donald J. Trump than to Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Giuliani’s lack of discipline has overturned more breadcrumbs than a drunken deli worker. The actions Rudy took for Trump on the Ukraine affair were done as a personal lawyer; thus, those actions are designed to help his client personally. The request for the Ukraine president to open an investigation was made to help Trump’s reelection campaign.

It’s official business when lawyers in certified roles, with security clearances and titles within the government, do the business of the administration. The government and the bar associations can discipline attorneys who break the law, disregard policies or run afoul of ethics departments and their inspectors. Rudy may not have broken any laws with his badgering of the new President of Ukraine, but he certainly exposed Donald Trump as a ruthless, lawless piece of shit. Bring on the fan!

So far, we have seen two kinds of lawyers in this story but we cannot end this report without mentioning a third kind of lawyer, one who should have known better. He’s Attorney General of the United States of America William Barr. The Justice Department knew of these memos and was aware that a national security lawyer urged the White House to move the readout of the call with Ukraine to a super-secret computer. What did William Barr know and when did he know it? Did William Barr have anything to do with the “nothing to see here” ruling on the whistleblower matter with Ukraine? Was Barr involved with the White House to help cover up the coverup? And, more importantly, do we, the taxpayers, get a discount on a double impeachment?

One of the other lines from the Zevon classic is, “An innocent bystander, somehow I got stuck between a rock and a hard place…” And yes, the “innocent bystander” in this narrative is the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. He’s just trying to fortify his country against the angry Russia bear breathing in his eastern border face. This ally is indeed caught between a rock and a hard place. What Mr. Zelensky really needs are lawyers, guns and money. And Donald Trump needs to shut up and start to help people who are strategically important to our security. You know, America First!

RECUSE OR RESCUE?

Trumped Up Calls for Investigation

We are living with a liar in the White House. Hardly anyone disputes that Donald Trump will say anything to win an argument, but what is really going on? It’s just another day in the ever-growing money-oriented political game that has hijacked our government. Why does this have to be the norm in the “greatest country in the world?” Let’s look at the broken promises and harmful premises of the 45th President of the United States.

Donald Trump wants to own the judge. It’s an old trick in local city politics and this far-reaching corruption must be stopped if we want a stronger democracy. In the good old days of small-town corruption, you could simply throw a bribe to an official to get whatever you wanted. Trump sees his presidential position as all powerful. He doesn’t think through what he’s about to do, say or release. The summary of the phone call with the President of Ukraine shows clearly who Trump really is; you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. He imposes quid pro quo in everything he does. How can he possibly say there isn’t a transaction in just about every action he takes? Why did he release the transcript? Why?

When the whistleblower complaint was given to the Justice Department, they decided that there was nothing criminal about what took place with the Ukrainian President, but Trump felt a need for them to investigate this matter. Trump has Attorney General William Barr to protect him, but in this case Barr’s name was brought up on the call as the Donald asked a favor from the new President of Ukraine. Trump urged Ukraine to work with Rudy Giuliani and William Barr. So, why wouldn’t William Barr rescue himself from the decision to release the whistleblower complaint to Congress or determining whether criminal activity was done by the White House? Well, it’s because Trump paid the judge; he owns him. If William Barr doesn’t recuse himself, he should be impeached as well.

Trump has asked the DOJ to rescue the newest Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. I’m not sure why Brett would need to be rescued from the authors of a book about him, but Trump seems to think the government has a right to ignore the First Amendment. If Trump fought as hard for the First Amendment as he does for the Second Amendment, he would be a much better president.

You can read the transcript (PDF below). It’s easy to see the consistent manner of Donald Trump and his continual asking for the order. Trump says, “I would like to ask you for a favor.” And there you have it. This is who our President is, and his Attorney General stopped any probe into this matter after receiving a complaint from a whistleblower. Our nation needs to be rescued from this trash dumpster fire.

Let’s focus on some important matters. Some of this should be dealt with by lawmakers. The personal lawyer of the president should never be acting as an agent for the administration. The State Department is complicit in Trump’s use of a personal attorney to do his bidding in a foreign country. That should be against the law.

As for the whistleblower law, it needs to be strengthened so that the executive branch shouldn’t be able to block a complaint that is supposed to go to the proper congressional committees. We need a penalty for any action that deters communication of whistleblower reports.

Donald Trump attempted to use the judicial system of another country to get dirt about his political opponent. Trump stopped the military aid that was going to the country in normal order before he made the call to the President of Ukraine. His attention on the call appears to be more about an investigation into Joe Biden and his son rather than helping an ally. And when the president was challenged by Congressional leaders about that aid, he released the transcript of the call. So, Trump is at least guilty of game playing or at most committing treason by interfering with our next election.

When the US Senate voted 100 to 0 and to pass a non-binding resolution that urged the White House to release the full Inspector General’s whistleblower complaint document, there is a consensus that something is rotten in Washington, D.C. And as the day ended on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, the whistleblower complaint was delivered to Congress, and was rumored to be declassified and released the next day. Will this time reasonable minds learn the truth?

Donald Trump is in the autumn of his presidency. As the colder winter winds start to blow through the streets of our nation’s capital, those who attempt to keep the leader warm in his lies and misrepresentations just might be damaged by association. And we will get through this crisis, even if Trump’s game ends. The more aware voters will see through the trumped-up charges that our president is attempting to foist on America, while those in the rapture of Trumpism become even more hypnotized into submission. Those who believe every lie and every excuse are the ones who need to be rescued from their ignorance.

LIKEABILITY AND TRUST

The Gold that Eludes Trump

A great salesperson will always make sure their customer is comfortable before asking them for the order. If a person likes you, they will be more inclined to buy from you.

Sometimes I like to discuss the similarities of the Greek terms ethos, pathos and logos, and how these concepts can help you to accomplish things with other people. Ethos is the spirit or culture of an individual or organization. The first thing another person should understand is where you stand. Can they trust that your goals will align with their desires? Why would you want to spend time with someone on whom you can’t truly depend?

Now pathos is less obvious, but equally important. Pathos is pity, sadness or a general empathy for another, the old “walk a mile in my shoes.” To gain a higher level of engagement with another person or nation, you must communicate a feeling for their position. You want to present to them a solution that you believe will solve their problem or meet their needs.

It’s only after establishing that you are standing on a firm position with your own culture and that you truly understand and care that you are ready to present a logical argument for your proposition or request. Trump fails miserably on all aspects of this ancient progression.

He opens every encounter with his despicable, transaction-oriented, me first attitude which lets the other person immediately know that they don’t matter. Trump has no empathy and openly asks the other person to focus on him. His viewpoints and the way he is perceived are more important to him than any agenda items that might be achieved. Many of the things Donald Trump says lack a logical explanation. He can’t look past himself to find a firm reason why what he wants is good for the other person. Even worse, many of his proposals are not good for our country. What happened to America First?

The latest controversary of a “whistleblower” filing a complaint about the President’s interactions with a foreign leader will not go away. And consider Trump’s odd behavior relative to his income tax returns. He guards them like secret documents that risk contempt of congress and court to keep us from seeing them. We cannot trust his word that they are under audit any more than we can believe what he now says about his conversation with the leader of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, the recently elected president who is the Jon Stewart of that country. This is not funny anymore.

Trump attempted to use the court system of Ukraine to go after his political rival Joe Biden, and his son Hunter, in order to have a talking point for the 2020 election. This is just weeks after Trump believed that he was acquitted by the Mueller Report. Perhaps this emboldened the Donald and made him think that seeking personal help in a US election from a foreign entity is proper. Leaders of our major ally countries know that Trump’s word means nothing and that they don’t trust him. They know that when they meet as a group (G7, UN) he fails to show at discussions about climate change, meaning he has no interest in this threat to the world. He has no understanding or empathy about the issue.

Maybe deep down inside this man knows the danger of pollution and climate change and is so embarrassed to have other people look at him in disbelief, especially his daughter Ivanka. Or could it be that Trump really doesn’t think polluting the planet and warming the atmosphere are causing extreme weather events? Clearly, he doesn’t see these as important issues. His “logos” or logic on matters of science hold them to be irrelevant. Trump’s preposterous position is this; things he cannot understand are not important. It would be great if we could tie his hands and sew his mouth shut, but it would be much more productive and fulfilling if he simply went away.

According to the latest stats from Real Clear Politics, Trump’s favorability stands at 41.8% with likely voters, while 53.4% give the President an unfavorable rating. In a recent NBC – Wall Street Journal poll, 69% of registered voters say they don’t like Trump personally, regardless of their feelings about his policy agenda. 50% say they dislike him personally and dislike his policies, while another 19% say that they dislike him but approve of his policies.

Most people cannot trust a person they do not like. In all aspects of his presidency, Trump continually acts on his emotions. He’s not a trustworthy person in word or action. As more and more comes out about Donald Trump, the godfather, attempting to bully the leader of a very important country like Ukraine, we will see his sole intent is protecting himself. His self-image is far more important than defending American interests and values. His priorities are wrong, and the culture of his administration is based on lies and disinformation campaigns. He has no empathy for people who aren’t rich, and his judgement is marred by not listening and lack of intellectual grounding. He’s a big fat clown in his red, white and blue circus suit. We must move on, tear down the tent, soon.
