REVELING IN IGNORANCE

GOP: Suicide by Trump

It was sad, and it all came so quickly and unexpectantly. The Republican party was the victim of a hostile take-over. Donald Trump’s populist message during the 2016 Presidential campaign seem to stick to the bottom feeders in Congress. The more reputable Republican members of the House and Senate went along with departures from the GOP norms just because they wanted to win. But what did the win mean?

Now that the smoke has cleared, and most thinking Republicans know that Trump is doing everything he promised, they have no time to reassess their views. They know they lost the house because of Trump and some know it’s only a matter of time that Trump will help diminish their majority in the Senate. The Republican party is in a death spiral without addressing the crucial question, “What does the party stand for?”

Let’s look at some facts. According to the Budget Office of the United States of America, as of October 28, 2018, debt held by the public was $15.8 trillion and intragovernmental holdings were $5.8 trillion, for a total or “National Debt” of $21.6 trillion. And the Treasury, under Steven, Mnuchin announced that for the first time in history, the national debt surpassed $21 trillion this week. This means that under Trump the debt might increase $2.1 trillion. That’s sure different than what President Trump predicted, but in matters of debt and bankruptcy, he hasn’t been a “stable genius” in those areas in the past.

We know that Republicans traditionally believed in “limited government” but with our Great Orange Leader, we seem to have given the President more power, diminished the responsibility of the Congress and tarnished the reputation of the FBI, Secret Service and the Supreme Court. Republicans are not the group to stand up to Trump, in fact, they are afraid of him. Under this “Republican” the party platform is totally ignored.

In Congress, Republicans are 99.3% Christian and .7% Jewish. They have done nothing to court Hispanic voters. They support prayer in public schools and tend to be the party that most lobbyists recruit after they leave office. They have left their credo of free market economics and have enabled Trump to use tariffs and sanctions as retribution rather than smart economic governance. They may be celebrating the move to add more conservatives to the Supreme Court, but in key decisions they might find that good judges don’t bend the law, they follow it.

While there are those who say this is all good for the Republican party, they obviously are counting on Trump’s celebrity and rabid fans to push them into office. But as the demographics of America change, the numbers don’t look good. White, well-educated suburban women are turning away from the divisive rhetoric. The way Trump has treated women, isn’t sitting well with WOMEN.

Another area of concern for Republicans is Trump’s constant demonizing minorities, immigrants and people who he doesn’t like. His hate and vitriol have made it impossible for any support from African-Americans, Hispanics and Muslim Americans. He has created an US and THEM mentality. His roaring crowds at political rallies give the President a false sense of security. We know he doesn’t know global or domestic economics, but continually does things to force a referendum on his radical ideas rather cautiously steer the trade ship through the critical waters. The stock market bounces around like his disparate comments. One day it’s up, the next day, it’s all wrong. Trump has such an unbeautiful mind.

I know, as a patriotic America, I should care that the GOP hold its ground and assert its will, but it’s too late. They helped elect an unemphatic political whore and there is nothing they can do about it. Their leaders won’t let them. They are just riding out this storm, hoping that something positive comes. If your party has an anchor around its ankle, you can only tread water so long. Some have already quit and would rather walk away from Trump and his family of goons. Some are faced with committing political suicide. May they rest in peace.

And now this just in from CNN, President Donald Trump said that he will not take strong action against Saudi Arabia or its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the death and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Donald J. Trump is a man without morals and he has blood on his hands.

Today we also learned that daughter Ivanka claims she didn’t know there was a problem using her personal email for government business. Obviously, she hasn’t been listening to her father for the last three years. She is either just as ignorant as her father, or the Trump family thinks they are above the law. LOCK THEM ALL UP.

WHERE DID EMPATHY GO?

Trump’s Weakest Moment

When we need someone to lead us, he fails. When we need the President to feel the pain of the people, he stumbles. When he presents America to the world, he embarrasses. Donald J. Trump has no empathy for Americans. He has no empathy for anyone else in the world. It’s not America first. It’s Trump First.

With all the leaders of the world commemorating the end of World War I in Europe, Trump said the weather was too bad for him to travel to a cemetery where American soldiers are buried. All the other leaders went, but Trump sent retired General John Kelly in his stead. Once again, Trump was missing in action on the empathy front. One wonders if his bone spurs were acting up that day.

It takes more than my two hands to count the number of events that have taken place in America and the world these past 22 months where the President of the United States could have been a comforting presence, but with Trump all we have is a fatalist. What a terrible thing to say, even if it’s true.

With more than 30 people dead in California due to fires, our president decided to tweet this, “There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

Really, this guy wants to blame “forest management” on the fires? Donald Trump has no knowledge about wildfires. They start, spread and devastate large areas because the land is too dry and the winds fan the flames. Wind and dry land are essential topics of the Paris Accord, but our Great Orange Leader will never make that connection. He would prefer to blame rather than help. Trump has no empathy.

Our president talks up first responders and police on the campaign trial, but he fails to understand their methods and challenges. This was the response from California Professional Firefighters President Brian K. Rice, “The president’s message attacking California and threatening to withhold aid to the victims of the cataclysmic fires is Ill-informed, ill-timed and demeaning to those who are suffering as well as the men and women on the front lines.” Or to put in another way, IT’S CLIMATE CHANGE, idiot!

Trump thinks he still on a reality TV show where the host is supposed to get laughs and applause. It might be a game to Trump, but when people die it’s no longer funny. If Trump doesn’t declare the fires in California a national disaster, he is negligent of duty and should be impeached. You cannot withhold funds for recovery because you don’t like how the people voted.

I am getting weary of those supporters who cannot see Trump’s lack of empathy and poor leadership. They tell me my rhetoric is not helpful and that we will never to be able to repair the divide by attacking the President. They keep saying, “Hey, look at the economy.” And I say what I have said from the day he was elected, “He’s bad for America. He embarrasses America.” They just don’t get it, but time and history will show that his destructive, unhelpful and conspiratorial comments have made America less safe and less “great.” America deserves a better leader.

MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Fewer Talking Points and More Votes

If you have followed this blog over the last two years, you know we’ve been very critical of the present administration and full disclosure, Donald J. Trump becoming president was the reason we started whywait4years.com, but let’s focus on you.

If you wonder what you can do about this mess, it’s simple. You need to get out of bed tomorrow and make your way to your polling place and VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

If you want to keep the Donald in check, you must vote for as many Democrats as possible. Even though we do subscribe to the truth that ALL ELECTIONS ARE LOCAL, this election is more about stabilizing the whole republic. If there was ever an election to vote straight ticket, this is the one. The only way to control Trump and this madness is to put as many Democrats as possible in office.

If you are just a little uneasy about the rash decisions of Donald Trump, vote Democrat. If you have some fantasy of impeachment to cure America of this politician con-man, vote Democrat. And finally, if you don’t want Congress to continue to back the monster in the White House, then vote for people who will stand up to this reckless President.

To all those Jill Stein, Gary Johnson voters, did you learn your lesson? To all those Bernie Sanders frustrated non-voters, shame on you. To those who view this as “just a midterm election,” you are naïve. EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE THE SYSTEM. And the same thing I said in 2016, I say today, “a vote for an indie or write-in” is only giving the person you don’t want a path to winning. You don’t want bad people telling you what to do and attempt to replace our America with a racist-tinged ideology, then you need to get your butt out and vote!

It’s time to VOTE!

STICKS & STONES – BREAK THEIR BONES

Trump’s Jingoistic Jungle of Fear

When the Ohio National Guard was called to put down what were described as riots at Kent State University in 1970, something went terribly wrong. On May 4th of that year, four unarmed student protesters were shot to death on the campus by the Guard. 13 other students were injured, and one became paralyzed for life. During the many hearings and court battles following the killings, the leadership of the Guard alleged that students were throwing rocks. Really, rocks against guns?

Now, in 2018, we have President Donald Trump saying if the people who want to claim asylum in the U.S. throw rocks at the border, they will be gunned down by the military. Ginning up fear, Trump has ordered 5,000+ forces to the border with Mexico to “defend” our country from what he has described as a dangerous caravan mob. Some followers of Trump say, “Oh, what is bothering you? He’s only joking around.” It’s not a joke when people die.

Trump’s extreme patriotism and aggressive, warlike foreign policy is mostly directed at friendly nations, rather than those who have desires to see America less influential in the world. When it comes to human rights, Trump hands a pass to the Saudis, Russians, North Koreans and even China while he looks the other way. By Trump’s inaction, he has permitted the Saudis to kill a journalist without any penalty. Perhaps he’s on their side?

If you’ve noticed, Trump has been focusing most of his campaigning energy in states with Senate seats up from grabs, not those areas where those running for the House might use his help. Our Great Orange Leaders knows the House can bring the charge of impeachment, but the Senate is where the case would be tried. Trump’s survival is more important than what might be best for America. The Donald has no ability to “Be Best!”

The strange rhetoric of the President complaining about the Pro-Trump mail bomber and the murders in a synagogue in Pittsburgh by an anti-Semite as bad things because they stole the momentum of Republican party was shameful. Has this man no decency and compassion for the people of America? Does he not care about those human beings who were killed?

Donald J. Trump is just another two-bit whore politician who thinks more about winning than actually making America better. The only thing Trump desires is control and command of a nation. He will do ANYTHING to keep his power. Lies and disinformation are his trademark. What kind of real American would play such a game? If we let the politicians lie to us at our front door, we give the money-changers a pathway into the Temple. Will we ever be able to trust anyone in Washington?

Now, more than ever, people should take the time to vote. This year we need to right the ship and give this administration some checks and balances. Because the people in the White House lie so much, there needs to be a majority in the House to have hearings on the issues at hand.

If Donald Trump orders our military to fire bullets at women and children seeking asylum in America, he will stake his claim to the blood thirsty dictator many people already see in him. Remember the words here. If Trump kills innocent people at the border, America will become just like Russia, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Did you vote for that? Is that really the America you want? But do remember, Donald the Great will not go easily.

CHARLOTTESVILLE TO PITTSBURGH

Trump Never Gets It Quite Right

When something bad happens, there are people we can count on to give us sympathy, administer some empathy and help us through a tragedy. Then there are people who we can never count on when times get rough and friends just can’t be found. I think most of us would rather be alone instead of hearing the blaming and gaming of a soulless politician.

As the climax to a dark and terrible week of targeted pipe bombs across the nation and innocent people being gunned down in Pittsburgh by a murderous ingrate, we have been challenged once again. Is hate winning?

When Donald Trump read his prepared response, he said that anti-Semitism and violence has no place in America. However, he has never said that Neo-Nazis, White Nationalists and the failing KKK have no place in the United States. He never confronts them with his words. His lack of indictment of hate groups is reprehensible. It feels like he is colluding with them. He refuses to define the cause of the hate or ever think about his role in this movement.

This is what we get from this disgusting President, “The Fake News is doing everything in their power to blame Republicans, Conservatives and me for the division and hatred that has been going on for so long in our Country. Actually, it is their Fake & Dishonest reporting which is causing problems far greater than they understand!”

Blaming the media for what is happening in America is worse than deflection, it’s unamerican. The media will always ask important questions. If our leaders’ answers make no sense, the press should and will simply keep asking. To be a true statesman, a leader must be transparent and tell the truth. Trump fails this test time and time again.

If the Donald was smart, he would realize that his “blame deflection” is teaching Americans to seek a boogieman rather than the truth. When Trump doesn’t have a fact to back up his outrageous points, he invents one. When our citizens are hurt in some way, Trump’s finger pointing prevents the proper processing of sad and demoralizing information. Why would the President of the United States talk about the death penalty before anyone was charged in the shooting of eleven people in Pittsburgh? Didn’t he preach recently about Brett Kavanaugh being innocent before being proclaimed guilty? At best, Trump is the most inconsistent President, ever!

Trump’s words after mass shootings and hate crimes proves he lacks the ability to communicate a message of reason and hope. He just wants to throw the person in the electric chair and get back to those rallies with his adoring fans. He lacks compassion for those suffering and he doesn’t get that his words have given these actors their motivation.

It is true that a crazy hater did fire bullets into a group of Republicans practicing baseball, but that doesn’t answer this question. What do we do about it? When questioned about gun control, Trump quickly promotes the tired NRA messaging. There should have been a guard to defend the Temple in Pittsburgh. More guns. Good guys with guns. Semi-automatic guns, like the AR-15 used in this most recent massacre, will always do more damage and cause more death than a hand-gun. Can we at least start there?

It’s not a coincidence that the hate-filled social media posts of the alleged shooter in Pittsburgh used the word “invaders” instead of “illegals” to describe the people in the caravan walking through Mexico. The alleged murderer may have criticized Trump for being a “globalist,” but the fact Trump vigorously declared himself a “nationalist” the other day sent a message to White Nationalists that Trump is their guy. When does Donald Trump become “our guy.” You know, the president for all Americans.

And finally, on the way back from a rally on the same day eleven Jewish souls were lost, Trump’s priority was the criticizing of a baseball manager. Look at this tweet, “Watching the Dodgers/Red Sox final innings. It is amazing how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through almost 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever(s) who get shellacked. 4 run lead gone. Managers do it all the time, big mistake!”

REALLY? When a whole city was mourning, this was Trump’s focus? He just had to blame someone for something. I am sure Dave Roberts, the L.A. Dodger’s manager, would never tell Trump how to do his job. We know that Trump hates anyone telling him what he needs to do. As anyone can clearly see, there is no empathy in the Trump White House.

DENIERS AND DINGBATS

Trump Ignores Domestic Danger

What kind of President do we have? What kind of person blames the press for what has happened in the last 72 hours? The mailing of explosive devices to Democrats and critics of Donald Trump puts him is a precarious position. His mild condemnation of these findings was nullified by a reintroduction of his blast at the press. If you follow his tweets, you can easily see his redirection rather than leadership.

Last night’s tweet gave us, “Funny how lowly rated CNN, and others, can criticize me at will, even blaming me for the current spate of Bombs and ridiculously comparing this to September 11th and the Oklahoma City bombing, yet when I criticize them they go wild and scream, ‘it’s just not Presidential!’”

This is the second attack on America that Donald J. Trump is choosing to ignore or attempt to use for his own gain. The “leader” of the free world still doesn’t believe Russia tried to wreak havoc on our 2016 elections, and now he is swatting away the criticism of his harsh rhetoric with more divisive bombast. Why doesn’t he just admit that the list of those receiving the devices contains the names of many people on his shit list?

Trump sends out his dingbats, like Sarah Sanders, to agree with this assessment that the free press is somehow to blame for the deeds of a crazy person. If he and his deniers would just SHUT UP and wait for the facts, they would better serve the American people.

And then this morning (10-26-2018), the President of the United States responded to two additional bombs being sent to Former CIA Director James Clapper and NJ Senator Cory Booker with this tweet, “Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this “Bomb” stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows – news not talking politics. Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!”

By putting the word “Bomb” in quotes, it’s clear that Donald Trump doesn’t take these terrorist acts seriously. I thought he was the President. Isn’t that what a president is supposed to do?

The terrorist mailed several bombs to people using the mail address of CNN. This shows the playbook of the nutcase is intended to disrupt the news network that Trump fears and hates the most. It’s almost like Trump is blaming CNN because their mailing address was used.

In the end, we will not gain any insight from the White House. We cannot depend on Donald Trump to tell us the truth, even when citizen lives are at risk. There is a voice in my head that whispers, “He likes what is happening.” Why would I think that? Maybe because President Trump has done nothing to make me think otherwise.

I am ashamed that Donald Trump is president.  He is just a politician who cannot see anything that happens outside of the context of elections and his own reputation. It’s all so sad for America.

DEMONONIZATION MATTERS

Trump’s Vitriol Being Acted Out

We have been writing this blog since Donald J. Trump became president, and in many of these missives we have warned that when an extreme ideolog stirs up his base, bad things happen. Trump rallies show us just how violent people can get when they are urged to hate journalists or anyone with a different opinion. With Trump holding the highest office in the land, we seem to have a domestic problem. It’s almost as if Russia has their hand in this great divide of America. It’s exactly what they would execute if they had the power. Maybe they have the power.

President Trump has multiple personalities and all of them lie. When confronted, he tries to be “presidential,” but he continually tweets messages of negativity and hate. The Donald has his enemies list, and it’s become apparent today that the crazies are attempting to gain his love by doing bad things to those on that list. When someone sends bombs to former presidents, actors and news networks, we are at a serious crossroad. Something must be done.

Trump’s harsh rhetoric, stupid conspiracy theories and hate speeches have pushed the fringe element to the edge. It’s time for Congress to comprehend that Donald Trump is bad for America. Trump has never even started to bring America together. Instead, he has divided us and turned basic traditions, customs and laws upside down. His thoughts and actions are not good for our country. He mocks decent conduct and has abandoned the respect and responsibility of the office. He has not fulfilled his pledge to protect all Americans.

We will learn more about the pipe bombs being sent to former presidents, movie stars and a news network, but Trump has can no longer brag about the lack of terrorism in America since he was elected. That was just another lie. STOP AND THINK ABOUT IT; the targets of these acts are Trump’s targets. The enemies of this terrorist appears to be the same people Trump doesn’t like.

I would urge everyone to google this reference in Wikipedia. I cannot believe that I would even think about what Hitler did to gain power when we are being attacked on our soil. I do not trust Trump and I am saddened to think he would ever promote this kind of activity.

We need to make sure that Trump is not complicit. We need to find out if these evil people are being motivated by Trump and, if so, they need to be condemned by the President. Trump has got to stop the vile demonization of Democrats and unnecessary bullying of our free press. If he cannot stop weaponizing his position, he should be impeached. He is inciting violence. And now we have proof.

MAD MEN RULE

Trump’s Law & Disorder

There is something rather depressing about where we find ourselves today. When you realize that 27 years after the Clarence Thomas confirmation, despite the Anita Hill testimony, we are no further along. And with each tick of the clock, it feels like we are going back to the 1950s, or worse, the late thirties in Germany.

We are being played by a racist in the White House, who bounces between his own self-fulfilling narcissism and tedious repetition of messaging. The Republican fools on the hill are just along for the ride hoping they survive. We are seeing Donald Trump attempting to reshape America in his bulbous image, and it’s an ugly, angry picture of demagoguery.

In round two of the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, we witnessed the exact nature of the men who serve in the Senate. A woman came forward with her recollections, and they weren’t about to let her get in the way of what they really wanted. One could say that these men of today want to use the court and the rule of law to exercise more control over women in America. But then, that would mean that every Republican woman is complicit.

After nine hours of testimony and grandstanding, we know that a calm Californian professor is 100% sure of her memory that something bad happened to her, while an aggressive and belligerent judge stood his ground and denied any wrongdoing.

During this confirmation process, we saw how powerful men with a large platform have even convinced conservative women that the men should decide how they think and manage their bodies. Trump and his cronies are attempting to intimidate women and convincing them that speaking up against men who have done evil things is bad for America. To answer Donald Trump’s question about what man would want to come forward to take a job in this environment, I say, “A really good man.”

We can sit back and slap these modern-day mad men on the back and say, “Nice job guys,” or we can stand up to them and point out the flaws in their tone and actions. In America today, it seems like a woman’s word is still three-fifths the value of a man’s word.

And when things got a little dull and pedantic, the Senate rolled out a holier than thou southern lawyer named Lyndsey Graham to raise Cain in the embodiment of Donald Trump. Maybe this future Attorney General just doesn’t like women. After all, he has never married one and there seems to be no trail of relationships with the opposite sex to reference. This was a question that was raised when he ran for President. Now he seems to be happy by just supporting and channeling the one we have now.

Trump doesn’t care about anything now but getting reelected in 2020. If Americans sit back and lets this travesty continue, more than our rights will be taken away. Liberty is a nice word, but when all the ideologs are in charge the real people will have no say. This Kavanaugh rush job is proof they are afraid of another shoe dropping, and their wants trump morality itself.

The Senate will vote to confirm this highly political animal named Kavanaugh, but not because they think he’s a great moral light or legal intellect. They will confirm him because they were told to confirm him. The Republican male Senators couldn’t even question the female accuser themselves. They jobbed out that task to a female prosecutor from Arizona. I guess when something difficult comes along, like child birth, you ask a woman to get the job done.

Dr. Christine Ford was just a blip on the radar screen in the male control tower of politics, and she has now been sent into the night to deal with her pain alone. The Senate hearing was simply a highly partisan patronizing stunt. To quote our spineless pumpkin-president, it was just a “big fat con job.”

Trump is not a law and order president. He is a fat, old, rich, white guy who wants to tell us how to act, how to think and how to make him feel good about himself. He’s a turd in the punch bowl, a power-hungry, wannabe dictator who believes his wealth, power and fame let him do whatever he wants. Wake up America, before every day becomes an endless loop of “greatness” without freedom. It’s not America First at all, it’s Donald First.

ELEVEN WHITE MEN

Trump’s Fork in the Road

There is something disconcertingly obvious about how history repeats itself. I never liked Clarence Thomas, not because he seemed to be an angry African-American back in 1991, but because he lied and his judgements are purely political. And now we have another up for a job-for-life on the Supreme Court who, on the surface, also appears to be a liar.

Whatever “deep-state” plan there was to appoint a very conservative black judge on the bench of the highest court back then, I care not. But what we witnessed almost 30 years ago at the Thomas senate hearing was a group of senators who verbally protected a man by second guessing a woman. Now you might say that what Clarence Thomas did was no more than run of the mill sexual harassment in that era. From time to time, however, Supreme Court judges must evaluate things from where they sit on the high court. Thomas should have never been elevated to the Supreme Court.

But the biggest embarrassment for America is the current president of the United States. Just look at this tweet from 9-21-2018, I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!” Donald J. Trump, if at any company in America, would be setting the firm up a major law suit for creating a hostile environment. All the president’s men and women quoted in Bob Woodward’s book are right. He’s a fucking moron.

Why no Republican women on the Senate committee? The eleven white male members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are, Chuck Grassley, Iowa, Chairman, Orrin Hatch, Utah, Lindsey Graham, South Carolina. John Cornyn, Texas, Mike Lee, Utah, Ted Cruz, Texas. Ben Sasse, Nebraska, Jeff Flake, Arizona, Mike Crapo, Idaho. Thom Tillis, North Carolina and John Kennedy, Louisiana.

I consider some of the men there nothing more than catheter bags and see no reason for them to be serving in Congress, let alone being on this committee. They are like what Trump would become if he could serve for life. O.M.G. Are you thinking “term-limits?”

Lindsey Graham has never been married, so I doubt he could judge anything about a relationship between a man and woman. Read into that whatever you want. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and John Cornyn have their underwear so tightly twisted around their ideological excrement, I cannot believe anything they would decide would be good for all of America.

Jeff Flake and Ben Sasse seem to be reasonable people, but when given a little zap from the Republican cattle prod they both fall right into line. John Kennedy is a character with a deep-south downhome way of expressing himself, but don’t be fooled by his name. His blood runs red and he’s no Atticus Finch.

I have nothing against people getting old, but there must come a time when a person is too old to drive a car. Chuck Grassley, the chairperson of this committee, tries hard to keep things moving, but he’s 85 years old and nothing more than a tool of the good-ole boy network of the Senate. Then there’s Orrin Hatch, who is 84 and the longest-serving Republican Senator in U.S. history. It is my opinion that Grassley and Hatch should retire today at 12 noon and so we can get some Republican women on that committee.

When Orrin Hatch was asked about the accusations from a woman who says that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when they were teenagers, he showed his lack of clarity of thought. Hatch said the woman alleging assault when they were in high school must be “mistaken” and, even if the accusation is true, Kavanaugh is a “good man” and “senators should judge who he is now.” Orrin Hatch said that Christine Blasey Ford is “… mistaking something, but I don’t know, I mean, I don’t know her.”

Why would he even say that? In a court of law, he would be thrown off the jury. If he was a judge and made that comment, he would be forced to recuse himself. After he made that statement, why would he still have a vote in this matter? I will be disappointed if one of the Democrat women don’t ask for his recusal.

America has always been 50% female but they have had to scratch and claw their way to get respect. People like Sarah Palin have not helped the cause of women in politics. Anita Hill has. Are we going to believe women, or just have these eleven white men send our “women folk” back to the kitchen and stay-at-home status? We could use a few less penises on the Judiciary Committee.

Some men have moved on since 1991. Even Joe Bidden admits that, as chairman of the committee during the Anita Hill testimony, he was part of the problem. But you must gasp at the fact that Orrin Hatch is still one of the eleven angry men on the committee. What the hell are they angry about? Oh, yeah, it’s #MeToo.

It’s too late for Orrin Hatch. His only redeeming quality is that he was born in Pittsburgh, but then a lot of people can say that. He’s over the hill and half way down the drain. It won’t be too soon (January 3, 2019) until Utah puts Mitt Romney in that seat. At least we will then get a modern man with reasonable positions.

Back to the subject at hand. We will learn more next week about Brett Kavanaugh. Perhaps he will be able to lie better than he did about talking to Trump’s law firm and whether he used stolen memos when he worked for George W. Bush. Dr. Ford will have her day in court, and those eleven white men better behave or they could drive more suburban women to the polls in November.

I am sure we can count on the eleven white men to do the right thing despite the fact they have such a terrible role model in the REPUBLICAN President of the United States. Our Great Orange Leader doesn’t sleep in the same room as his spouse and he doesn’t use protection when having sex with porn stars. He seems more attracted to his daughter than his wife and, when confronted about alleged infidelity or sexual harassment, he simply denies it and walks away. His derriere is certainly bigger than his heart. Honesty is not a word you would ever use to describe Donald J. Trump. He’s merely a foolish man who built his house on lies.

When did America become so tainted by male chauvinism and old school male dominance? Oh yeah, when we elected a pig president. Oink! Oink!

THE JUDGE & THE JURY

Trump’s Nominee and the Court

We want our Supreme Court justices to be above reproach. We know that humans are flawed in many ways, but a person who sits in judgement of the most important decisions in the land needs to be honorable and fair.

For those of us who are old enough to remember Anita Hill and her agonizing testimony before an all-male panel of Senators, we know the result of that hearing gave us Clarence Thomas. In my opinion, Justice Thomas is a biased judge. But this isn’t just my opinion, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture left him out of their displays and mentioned Anita Hill’s bravery instead.

There are many in the black community who believe that some of the decisions and votes from Clarence Thomas actually turned back the clock for African-Americans in this country.  Judge Thomas’ wife, Virginia Thomas, is a well-known conservative and attorney who founded Liberty Consulting and the advocacy (lobbying) group Liberty Central. She is also a columnist for The Daily Caller and has previously worked at The Heritage Foundation. If you remember, Trump got his list of potential judges for the Supreme Court from this foundation. Virginia Thomas has more influence here than even the president.

Now we have a woman who has come forward to accuse Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court of sexual assault when he was a teenager. Just as we had with Justice Thomas, one woman could stand between him and his lifetime appointment to the court. Will this simply be another Anita Hill moment with nothing really changing, or will the #MeToo movement finally be able to block a nomination to the highest court?

One of the things the protectors of the president are asking is, “Why did this woman wait so long to bring this up?” They wonder out loud, “Why now?” It’s rather bewildering that those same people will watch TV shows about cold cases that are reopened and solved without asking that same question. Sure, technology, DNA and time have a way of bringing the truth to the surface in those shows, why not follow that same kind of logic in this real-life, critical discussion?

Brett Kavanaugh is probably not a serial rapist, but just writing those words could generate a key word connection on the internet. If reposted by enough people, the connection between the nominee’s name and that label could become a search result on Google. The jury is not only public opinion, but also the fuel for the mathematical algorithms working their magic on the search terms people use. We saw what the internet did to Rick Santorum. He is forever linked with “anal sex” when people search his last name.

I watched hours and hours of the Senate confirmation hearings and, objectively speaking, I found Kavanaugh to be quite knowledgeable about case law and the tradition of precedent. At the same time, I felt that he was much too political to be on the Supreme Court. He seemed to be pitching for the job, like a greasy whore politician. It’s what he couldn’t remember that bothered me most. And who spends $60,000 on baseball tickets?

In the past, we’ve put some far-right lunatics on the court. People of today’s generation may not remember the name Lewis F. Powell Jr., but this associate justice was appointed to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon. He did more to help large corporations and rich people than any other justice. We wouldn’t have the Citizen’s United decision or the Hobby Lobby debacle without the road being paved by Justice Powell. If we could remove a few layers of decisions in the court, we would know the big print may giveth but the fine print taketh liberty away.

It’s likely going to be another wild week in Washington. Once again, Trump has created more fodder for the news networks with no greatness. He’s taken the memory of almost 3,000 dead souls in Puerto Rico and thrown them into the trash. He’s a womanizer and abuser of women’s rights and knows his base doesn’t care. The Great Orange Leader is only playing a character President. He’s not a real statesman.

Will the members of the Senate judiciary committee ignore the testimony of one woman from California? There are probably more secrets and lies in the thousands of memos that Brett Kavanaugh wrote while working for George W. Bush. That’s the reason Republicans don’t want people to see them. Hopefully this one woman will make them realize that they should look at everything this man has said and done in the past. Why the rush?

The good news is that anything which makes Donald Trump look bad will be dismissed. It might take the Donald a little longer to figure this one out, but in the end,  he will pluck another name from that long list of conservative judges provided by the Heritage Foundation. Like a novice at the track picking a horse, Trump will point to a name he likes and lay down another bet.

A person who could breeze right through the Senate would be Merrick Garland. He’s a good judge and an objective thinker but, unfortunately, he’s not on the sacred list. There is a reason that the people don’t get to vote on Supreme Court justices, I mean look what happened when they decided who should be president.
