BIRTHERISM TROPES

The Trump Dictionary of Hate

One of the things we learn about language is that one doesn’t have to invent a word, they just need to push the needle in the right direction. Words are invented when we don’t have another way to say something. When citizen Donald Trump got tons of publicity claiming that the 44th President Barack Obama was not born in America, and thus not legally qualified to be president, lots of people followed Trump into that hole.

Birtherism was the invented word to put meaning into the Donald’s dastardly deed. Today, we all know the meaning of the word, but that doesn’t legitimize the act of discrediting someone by emphasizing where they were born. This disconnect with reality is not only harmful, but hateful. Why would Trump spend so much time trying to accuse Obama of not being a legitimately elected President, unless he truly hated him?

Now we find ourselves at the question, what is racism? What is this hate that seems to permeate much of what Trump says? The four freshmen congresswomen held a press conference to rebuke Donald Trump. They reminded us how Trump told everyone during his campaign how the United States was broken and how he alone could fix it. He constantly put down everything from airports, to laws, to treaties and people. He claimed everything had fallen in such disrepair, including the military, that we should be ashamed of what America had become. He capped his rhetoric with the slogan promising he would make America great again. Well, did he?

Maybe we have permanent damage here. On their Website, Fox News reported, “Trump’s remarks apparently were directed at four congresswomen: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All are American citizens and three of the four were born in the U.S.”

Good that they pointed out that all four are American citizens, but wait, they just handed Trump a way out and he took it. This was what happened during the Made in America Day at the White House yesterday (7-15-2019). A reporter asked, “Does it concern you that many people saw that tweet as racist and that white nationalist groups are finding common cause with you on that point?” The president responded, “It doesn’t concern me because many people agree with me. And all I’m saying, they want to leave, they can leave.” None of the four people receiving the hate ever said they wanted to leave their country and nothing for nothing, those “many people” who agree Trump are RACISTS, too!

Now Trump’s claiming that people who criticize him or suggest improvements for our country are being un-American and they all must hate America. Really? He goes on to state that if you hate America you should leave. How does this man know what people feel or what they love?

Did it ever occur to this man that if someone disagrees with his policies, that doesn’t make them less American? Perhaps they don’t hate America at all. Maybe they just hate you, Mr. President. And the attempt to pivot from racism to socialism isn’t fooling anyone with half a brain.

Let’s have some Birtherism fun here. Donald Trump’s father was born in New York City on October 11, 1905 and his birth name was Frederick Christ Trump. Yes, his parents gave him “Christ” as a middle name (family name). Donald’s grandfather came to America from Germany in 1885, while Donald Trump’s mother was a domestic worker from Scotland who came to the United States in 1930 to marry Donald’s father Fred. Two of Donald’s wives were born outside of the United States (Czechoslovakia & Slovenia), but Donald Trump was born in the US. His lack of respect for immigrants is rather astounding considering the number of immigrants in his family. So, logic follows. Simply being born in America doesn’t make you a good person.

I’ve written a lot about Donald Trump in the last three years and I’ve pointed out how racist his words and actions have been. It’s rather gratifying that more people, Americans, think Trump is contributing to the problem. A Pew Research Center poll earlier this year showed 56% of Americans saying Trump has made race relations worse. Trump was wrong about the place of Obama’s birth and all we have for it is the term Birtherism. Trump uses hate to make people, at best, uncomfortable around people of color and, at worst, to promote white nationalism in the open.

Trump has an on-going disgust for people of color who don’t fit into his definition of a “rightful American.” He and his father tried to keep the “coloreds” out their apartment buildings, fearful that their presence would lower the value of those buildings. This was proven in court. Donald Trump may pal around with famous black people, but deep down inside he believes his genes are superior to “others.” Playboy magazine documented this in a 1990 Trump interview. He calls them “lucky genes.”

Trump has always been a racist but we’re not sure why. Maybe his German relatives or mother Mary and the Scots poisoned his soul; unlikely. My money is on Fred Trump. On Memorial Day 1927, after riots erupted in New York and 1,000 white-robed Klansmen marched through the Jamaica section of the city, seven men were arrested. One of them was Fred Trump of 175-24 Devonshire Road in Jamaica. No one has ever denied it.

Then again, it could be the result of Donald J. Trump’s small brain interpreting the silver spoon given to him at birth. He was told he was better than others. He was given loads of money to prove he was superior. Today, he believes in his heart that he somehow rises above all other humans. That’s dangerous and will never be cured by the truth.

Ivana Trump once told her lawyer, Michael Kennedy, the disturbing fact that Donald Trump kept a book of Hitler’s speeches near his bed. We have no reason to believe he read the book, but when confronted by the fact Trump said, “…my friend Marty Davis from Paramount gave me a copy of ‘Mein Kampf,’ and he’s a Jew.” In fact, the book was My New Order, a collection of Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. But then, Trump hardly ever gets the facts right. The important question is why did he keep the book by his bed?

And while we are on the subject, Hitler was born in Austria, not Germany. And we all remember that the Emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, was born on Corsica of Italian descent with the name Napoleone di Buonaparte. He changed his name at age 27 to sound more French, just like the Drumpfs changed their name to Trump. We would never suggest Donald Trump and his family go back to Germany. They wouldn’t want him, and we need to see him in court once he becomes a non-sitting President.

I wonder if where you are born means anything about the way you grow up. Donald Trump has a lot of nerve saying that anyone hates America as much as he does. If he really loved America, he would bring her together. Don’t waste your time expecting the Republicans in Congress to say this is wrong. They have already bought into his bullshit. What’s another lie, another sin, another indiscretion in the name of winning. If they were true Christians, they would be worried more about judgment day than the latest polls, or the next tweet.

THE WORST DEAL EVER

More Posturing Than Progress

Here’s a twist of logic that has become the go-to harangue when Trump loses, “I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster.” Yes, Donald J. Trump has lost many battles while being the president. He never apologizes but certainly takes time to justify his actions when things go wrong. In most cases he over-talks and shows his real intent with poorly constructed sentences saturated in doubt.

Over the weekend we learned more from leaked cables sent to the UK government by the former United Kingdom ambassador to the United States, Kim Darroch. He said the Trump administration was, “set upon an act of diplomatic vandalism,” in its decision to abandon the Iran nuclear deal. He further opined that President Trump abandoned the Iran nuclear deal to “spite” predecessor Barack Obama. I personally wonder why Donald J. Trump hates Obama so much. Could the President be a racist?

So, the deal that Trump railed against with Iran, which was signed by China, France, Germany, European Union, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, had no value to Trump other than something he could erase from the list of Obama accomplishments. The pact provided a way to see if Iran was enriching uranium, but Donald never believes the reports he doesn’t read. And all the money he kept referring to during his scream-filled speeches, was money we took from Iran during the sanctions. We were lawfully obligated to give that money back, with interest.

When we pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the Iran Deal), we unilaterally paved the way for Iran to do whatever they wanted. Trump not only failed the American people, but he failed those other countries that believed the JCPA could bring some stability to the region. Trump’s action made things worse.

When Trump receives criticism for his exploits, he dishes up the same red meat that his “base” loves in an attempt to get all the world to believe him. It’s not working. Not only did the UK Ambassador see through Trump, but the whole world is laughing at the fool in the White House.

When Alexander Acosta resigned from his job as Secretary of Labor, Trump brought him out on the lawn to shout at the press over a whining helicopter in a vain attempt to justify his departure. The president expressed regret over Acosta’s decision saying Acosta was a “great labor secretary” and reassured the secretary with “you don’t have to do this.” Trump made it clear that it was Acosta’s decision and not his own. Really? If he’s great at his job and Trump liked him, why would he leave? He left because Trump knows much more that most about the Jeffrey Epstein case, and in his small little mind he believes this will make it all go away. Trump fears being drawn into his own past.

Trump walked away from NAFTA and made Mexico and Canada, our most important trading partners, very uncomfortable with our government. Through the fog and insanity of Trump, the three countries did manage to get a new deal, the USMCA trade agreement. Time will tell if much was gained with this new concept, but Trump’s imaginary problems with NAFTA was more campaign rhetoric than actual crisis. It’s ironic that after the USMCA passes the trade numbers between the countries may be about the same.

One can argue that the damage of NAFTA, or any older trade deal, has already been done because the American work force was never retrained to maximize the global economy. Pittsburgh didn’t die when the steel mills closed, but the hefty union wages disappeared. But then, cheap goods and free trade were hallmarks of the Republican party, so assign blame to Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes in addition to the Democrats.

When Trump loses an argument or a deal, he calmly says “we didn’t have to do this.” We didn’t need to shut down the government to work on the budget for border security, but he did, and Americans suffered. We didn’t need to get rid of Alex Acosta, but his resignation was accepted. You see the pattern here? It would be more believable if Trump didn’t pontificate so much. We overdose on today’s lie, only to hear him rescind his entire premise. It’s a dizzy ping-pong game.

Over the weekend, Trump blasted out some extremely racist tweets against women in color in Congress. Rather than back him up, one official source of the White House said it never happened. WTF? Trump by Monday was telling anyone who doesn’t like America to go back to “their country.” Not sure why I would want to go back to Scotland, after all, my family has been here for more than 320 years. And what would he say to a native American?

Trump has no new Paris Accord. Trump has nothing signed with North Korea. Trump has no trade deal with China. Trump hasn’t replaced NAFTA with an amazing agreement that will make us all rich. Trump gives away money to farmers who are suffering because he’s a piss-poor negotiator, and he hasn’t made things better for the future farmers of America. It just might be the time for everyone to ask, “Are we really better off than we were four years ago?”

I’m sick of Donald Trump and his family. I’m sick of the President’s stupid statements and lies. I’m sick of hearing him coddle his base. And by the way, WHO IS HIS BASE? You don’t lose more than 100 people in an administration without realization that the problem is at the top. The fish rots from the head, and the head of our government is a lame-ass liar.

INSANE ASYLUM LAWS

Trump Lack of Knowledge Shows

The more President Trump talks, the more he reveals his abysmal lack of knowledge about laws, customs, traditions and the agreements our country has stood behind for more than 70 years. In short, he truly believes that if he doesn’t know what something does, it must be wrong. Because of his bully pulpit stance and the American public’s lack of understanding about International Law, Trump is pushing the masses to adopt his opinions. This might not be a good thing to say, but you cannot make an out-of-work victim of the global economy read a book.

Let’s talk about the term “asylum.” The pun in the headline of this piece harkens back to my childhood, when the term “insane asylums” was used in the newspaper, on TV and in comedy routines. Some synonyms were, mental institution, mental home, mental hospital, psychiatric hospital, crazy house, cuckoo’s nest, funny farm, loony bin, madhouse, nuthouse, sanatorium and snake pit. These derogatory terms helped shape the word “asylum” for us growing up in the 1950s.

But the real meaning of the word is more important. An asylum seeker is a person who flees their home country, enters another country and applies for asylum, a request for international protection. An asylum seeker is a type of migrant who may be a refugee or a displaced person but is not one who enters another country for economic benefit.

Vice News

According to the website Immigration Equality, “U.S. asylum law is derived from international agreements written after World War II which provide protection to people fearing or fleeing from persecution. The first agreement, the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, was drafted by the United Nations in response to the large migrations of people in the aftermath of the Second World War.”

In order to bring US law into compliance with its obligations under the UN Protocol, the United States enacted the Refugee Act of 1980. It adopted essentially the same definition of refugee as set forth by the Convention. A person with a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion is encouraged to apply for asylum in any country that signed the treaty. We are one of those countries.

Trump either doesn’t know these obligations exist, or he simply doesn’t care about these agreements. Contemporary complications have arisen because the process has become jammed up with so many people claiming “persecution.” Our judicial system is inadequate and unable to process the abundant claims. This is not Donald Trump’s problem. It’s been present for years and the non-solution of previous administrations was camouflaged by lack of transparency and the fact that some did not see this influx of migrants as a problem. Donald Trump cannot present a creative solution because he’s so vocal and afraid of the far-right. He thinks that we just needed to get “tougher“ to make it all go away. He’s an idiot.

Donald Trump is obsessed with immigrants and people who he claims do not belong here. Ironically, his relatives were Drumpfs. In the 1600s they changed their names to Trump, which in German means drum. Not only were his family immigrants from Europe, Donald’s mother, Mary, was a McLeod from Scotland. And Melania, his immigrant wife, brought her parents to America using the loophole that our President likes to call, “Chain Migration.” Their house is literally filled with immigrants

Trump can beat his drum about how bad things are at the southern border, but he is missing the fact that, according to The Center for Migration Studies of New York, “…from 2016-2017, people who overstayed their visas accounted for 62 percent of the newly undocumented, while 38 percent had crossed a border illegally.” Trump is clueless about the difference between “asylum seekers” and those who just visit here then stay. He thinks asylum seekers are liars, while those who pay for an airplane ticket are okay?

Trump screams at his rallies that the problem at the border could be fixed if the Democrats would just change the asylum laws. The Democrats don’t have the will or power to change an International treaty. One would have to go to the UN and propose changes to the 1969 accord, or the president of the US could just invalidate the treaty. He probably doesn’t even know this. The US agreed to take care of asylum seekers, and this is a good idea. If we don’t have the will or desire to go into these “shithole” countries to fix their major human rights problems, then we should just shut up and keep the asylum rules the way they are.

America is an ideal, not necessary a set of rules and regulations. The failed agreements after WWI taught us that bad things can follow. Ask the families of almost six million Jews who were killed by Hitler. That was almost 60% of the Jewish population of Europe. If only they could have sought asylum somewhere.

Donald Trump shames the United States every day and he’s not worthy of being President. He’s spreads lies, hurts human beings and plays games with his power. It’s too bad that we cannot get rid of him sooner. Maybe he will end up in an insane asylum when he realizes, most of America truly dislikes him and clearly hates his policies.

OLD WAYS VS. NEW IDEAS

The Real Democratic Challenge

There’s something happening here; what it is, is exactly clear. The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, is concerned only with personal wins and his appearance of strength and power. Rather than focusing on what is best for the country and providing progress for the planet, he lives in a photo-op world.

Russian President Vladimir Putin kills people who write or say negative things about him. It’s quite likely that 21 journalists have been killed since Putin came to power in March of 2000. Kim Jong-Un’s regime arrested, incarcerated and killed American Otto Warmbier because he allegedly removed a political poster from a wall. North Korea has executed more than a dozen of Kim’s rivals, including his half-brother.

Saudi Arabia has slain more than 500 people in the last three years, and every investigation has linked the country’s Crown Prince to the extrajudicial execution of a Washington Post journalist. The CNN headline stated, “Trump says he is ‘extremely angry’ about Khashoggi murder but defends MBS relationship.” The beat goes on and Trump’s transactional personality will not let him challenge countries on human rights and injustices. He simply doesn’t care.

Taking Trump at his word, it’s clear that he feels more comfortable with dictators than allies. He speaks the language of a mobster and has an affinity for those who solve political problems with murder and oppression. If you think the Donald’s equivocations and nonconfrontation of the evil in the world with his throwaway line of “everybody does it,” then you are complicit. When will the evangelicals, moderate republicans and thinking democrats step up and restate the meaning of morality? Trump has desecrated American values both at home and abroad.

Watching twenty Democrats duke it out on stage at the debates last week made it apparent how the great number of candidates has made the process unwieldy, but something popped into my brain that revealed the true challenge. The Democratic party must cope with OLD WAYS vs. NEW IDEAS and stop the personalities from getting in the way of resolving issues.

Our founders used clear logic when they decided that a member of the House of Representatives had to be 25 years or older and a Senator had to be at least 30 years of age. They carried through with the rule that a President must be an American born person of 35 years of age or older. Of note, they never adopted a retirement restriction as some states have for judges. So, was it the idea of maturity that moved the framers to say age matters?

Let’s state some facts here. If elected to a second term, Donald Trump will be 74 years old. Joe Biden would be 77 years old if elected president and Bernie Sanders would be 78 if he won. On inaugural day 2020, Nancy Pelosi will be 80.

Donald Trump isn’t a bad president because he’s old. He’s simply a bad person and thus a horrible president. He’s a divisive hater and pathological liar. Age will never be an accurate determinant of quality of leadership. We learn this lesson every day.

There is evidence that the old ways of doing business gets things done in Congress. When former Vice President Joe Biden was attempting to express his political agility, he was accused of befriending racists. Biden had a horrible night on the debate stage when Senator Kalama Harris confronted his old record on school busing. The “new ways” are about more than busing and racial equality, but this is the price of politics. The old expression of eating its young doesn’t apply. This is more about the young casting out its old.

Some of the newly elected members of the House and presidential contenders are pushing a left-leaning, progressive agenda. Trump will use this against any Democrat running for President. He will paint them as leftist, socialistic and radical. Being the revisionist trying to bring back the past, Trump risks alienating younger voters who didn’t live through the cold war. The conservatives, evangelicals and power-hungry Republicans want to move the whole country back to the 1950s, while young Americans feel that they are owed something.

How do we progress as a nation? When state laws take away things like women’s reproductive rights, those under 35 years of age will see it as the OLD people dictating to the next generation. This glaring gap between right and left is growing. Moderates are silent for now, but they will have to take a side soon. An election is coming.

In a perverted, mind-blowing way, Republicans hail Trump as a change maker. A person who doesn’t do predictable things and is not a typical politician makes them feel good, even when it hurts them personally. As the farmer who got screwed with tons of soybeans that no one wants to buy because of tariffs, could they move their vote to a moderate, Midwest, positive Democrat?

Democrats would be wise to position Trump as old fashioned and wrong on healthcare, instead of bleating layered, detailed plans that dim the common man. The wealth gap is real, but those who are hurt from an unbalanced economy need reasons why the new ways are better than the old. Currently, the polls would have you believe that most Americans don’t want a second Trump term but many people, no matter what party, aren’t yet sure who will get their vote.

DEMOCRATIC SPEED DEBATING

Trump Out of Country, But Not Out of Mind

With too many people on the stage, the overloaded Democratic debate lineup clawed its way to providing attention rather than meaningful substance. With so many candidates, one debate had to be split over two nights, with some candidates having less than 1% in the polling feeling a need to ungraciously interrupt others just to get a shot at face time.

One of the hallmarks of our society today is instantaneous analysis by talking heads and pundits, which provides nothing other than regurgitation of each TV network’s programming position. President Trump has said “No Collusion” thousands of times, but our President colludes with Fox News. Some say that the Donald talks to Sean Hannity nightly. I guess they need to get their stories straight.

People from other countries, especially the UK, think our long and extended campaigns are wretched excess, and they are right. Anyone with common sense knows that the Supreme Court’s decision on Citizen’s United created a money pool so great we should all be ashamed. The money spent on candidate advertising could put thousands of kids through college. But with this new concept of so many people running for office, we have moved away from the political machine picking the candidates. One must admit that the political assumption of Hillary Clinton being singularly the best candidate in 2016 proved to be more disastrous than opening the stage to many distinct opinions.

Having many people running for the presidency offers a refreshingly vast diversity of ideas and solutions for America. I would like to get all the candidates in a huddle and say, “Hey, why don’t you all become the next president?” Their collection of progressive ideas could make America better. NBC News did a great feature called My Big Idea, where each candidate presented their one big idea and amplified the essence of its importance. Here is a list of some of the issues rising to the surface:

Andrew Yang: A $1,000 monthly check sent to every American over 18, so they can pay their bills when robots take over.

John Delaney: Wants to build a public and private international coalition against China’s intellectual property with a TPP-style trade deal. (like the one we walked away from)

Julian Castro: He is a strong advocate of free trade to strengthen protections for workers and the environment.

Kalama Harris: The LIFT Act, a working and middle-class tax cut akin to the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Marianna Williamson: Wants to pay $10 billion in slavery reparations every year for 10 years to the African American community.

Corey Booker: Would like to introduce a “baby bond” program to give every child a US Treasury bond at birth, with a larger amount for poorer kids. He also proposes a $15 minimum wage.

Tulsi Gabbard: Cut taxes on small businesses and farmers, lower military spending by ending regime-changing wars and reducing the acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Elizabeth Warren: Would like to see a “wealth tax” of 2% on net worth over $50 million and 3% over $1 billion designed to raise $2.75 trillion over a decade.

Amy Klobuchar: Would like to introduce new measures to make it easier for small and mid-sized US businesses to export goods worldwide.

Bernie Sanders: Make public colleges tuition-free, increase Social Security benefits, make corporate America more union-friendly and “Medicare for all.”

Jay Inslee: He positions himself as the only candidate totally focused on stopping climate change via 100% clean energy and net-zero greenhouse gas pollution.

John Hickenlooper: Cutting red tape to reduce the cost of doing business and increase compliance with regulations.

Beto O’Rourke: He is focused on reducing inequality, though stronger anti-trust regulations to break up monopolies and encouraging companies to invest profits in their employees and communities.

Kirsten Gillibrand: Require companies to adopt a universal paid parental leave policy.

Tim Ryan: Promotes electric vehicle manufacturing and other green industries, while being pro-business and pro-fracking (not a Democratic position), and cautions against Democrats moving too far to the left.

Eric Swalwell: Expanding access to college by providing interest-free federal loans, allowing employers to make tax-free contributions to pay off their employees’ student debt.

Pete Buttigieg: Increase public protections of jobs and benefits to help make the employment market more dynamic without the fear of personal debt tied to college loans and medical bills.

Seth Moulton: Backs the Green New Deal as a genesis of new “green jobs” in America.

Joe Biden: His Biden Institute is pushing tech education and increased bargaining power for American workers as a solution to the left-behind working and middle class.

Michael Bennet: Pushes Medicare X, which he calls a “true public option” for healthcare, that bridges the gap between Sanders’ “Medicare for all” plan and private healthcare.

Steve Bullock: Reform campaign finance laws so that representatives don’t answer to donors, they answer to voters.

Bill de Blasio: Focuses on progressive ideas to close he wealth gap nationwide, including nationalizing his universal successful pre-Kindergarten program and increasing affordable housing.

Other topics Democrats have been presenting on the campaign trail are abolishing the electoral college, reparations, family care, wealth gap, criminal justice reform, free college, regulating big tech, gun control, reproductive rights, legalizing marijuana, and securing voting rights. If you are wondering where all the discussion about foreign policy and international challenges are, well, right now they aren’t part of the culling process. In the beginning of this, long and arduous process, we want to know how a candidate will handle America first.

Donald Trump doesn’t realize that his egomaniacal tweets aren’t going to cut through the freshness and excitement of progressive ideas presented during these debates. He shouldn’t be worried about 24 Democrats running for President. He should be worried about Robert Mueller testifying in public. The clock is ticking.

SYMBOLISM & THE SUPREME COURT

Trump’s Weaknesses Revealed Again

America is changing because of Donald Trump and the arduous journey back to normality will take years. I have long believed that Trump’s words and actions do not reflect his hardcore values. They’re just tools to get the job. He’s far more interested in winning than solving the problems of real people.

This brings us to the Supreme Court, which should be an apolitical body that interprets the Constitution and applies same to decisions which move the country forward. Everyone says the Supreme Court doesn’t write law, but that is bullshit. Its legally binding decisions are based on the religious indoctrination and political bias of its justices. Sorry, but that’s the truth. How can they possibly know what the founding fathers thought or meant, when much of today’s practices, terminology and language didn’t even exist back then?

In a 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court decided that a 40-foot, World War I memorial cross on public land in Maryland can stand. According to the Baltimore Sun newspaper, “The case began as a lawsuit by three people who live near the cross and the District of Columbia-based American Humanist Association, which includes atheists and agnostics. They argued that the memorial should be moved to private property or modified into a nonreligious monument such as a slab or obelisk.”

Now I know that this “important” decision hammers the First Amendment with the same tool that would have been used to chisel that cross into a slab, but reasonable minds get the point. Justice Samuel Alito wrote, “A government that roams the land, tearing down monuments with religious symbolism and scrubbing away any reference to the divine will strike many as aggressively hostile to religion.” That seems logical, but the Supreme Court is full of Catholics and Maryland is a state that has harbored both boats and Catholics for centuries. For the record, six of the Justices were raised Catholic and three came from Jewish homes. Perhaps you might want to reconsider if you believe they are free of their backgrounds and upbringings.

A chapter in my new book, Gold, God, Guns & Goofballs, describes what one sees as they travel our American highways. People are killed by the thousands each year on our roads. Almost 40,000 people die on our motorways each year, and memorial flags and crosses go up all the time. I feel they are more of a distraction and less things that should be protected.

Maybe I am being harsh on the cross, but I suggest that an Islamic edifice on the same land would not only be defaced but the Supreme Court would order its removal. Are Trump’s picks pushing religion?

They will argue that a monument holding words of a religion casts a greater shadow than a symbol alone. They will argue that crosses, which mark the graves of American soldiers, became a symbol closely linked to war. But shouldn’t the star of David, the symbol of Judaism, have equal standing and be added to the memorial? And what about an Islamic symbol, as well?

The Supreme Court had to decide if that monument should be taken down. It’s somewhat strange that their decision devalued the symbol of Christ. They are saying that the symbology of a cross is so widely used it cannot possibly offend. If this was a trademark case, the plaintiff would be up in arms. What will they do when a Swastika is erected on public land? Most people don’t know that symbol originated in the Hindu religion, although Hitler graphically flipped its perspective.

I get it. The court was dealing with only one cross and one lawsuit, but they have now paved the way for Christianity to gain more power over other religions in the US. They have said that the cross is not firmly linked to a religion. Oh, how they offend the Christians of the world. Will we now see more crosses on public lands?

The Supreme Court will never take off their robes and appear in court wearing T-shirts and jeans. They will never abandon their symbolism. Robes impart a sense of religious symbolism, like a church choir. The decorum of the court is paramount in maintaining law and order. Symbolism works where important decisions are made. Just like banning cameras from their court, the formal propriety of dress sends a message to those who must argue before them.

The Supreme Court will be tested again on the separation of church and state. I don’t understand why we have “In God We Trust” inscribed on our money. Why not put a giant cross on the new $20 bill? Why not say a prayer before every session of Congress? Oh wait, they already do that. You see, despite Thomas Jefferson’s thinking that it would be a good idea to keep God out of government, no one seems to know just how to do that.

The symbolism of racism, civil war, hate, white nationalism, the KKK, confederate flags and neo-Nazis are far greater threats to our freedoms than a cross on the side of the road in Maryland. If the Supreme Court decided to outlaw symbolisms of hate, they would be challenged by those factions using them. The bottom line is this. The Supreme Court has imposed their value system on us by deciding the presence or absence of blatant religious messaging in a symbol. Who gave them that power? The Constitution doesn’t support such a responsibility. Is it time to revisit, and perhaps restrict, the power of the Supreme Court?

A good President would try to balance the court. Along with consideration of the political leanings of candidate judges, shouldn’t their religious affiliations be examined as well? Why not have a Protestant on the court? How about an atheist? What about finding a judge who is gay or transgendered? You see, knowing how a prospective justice will rule on a woman’s right to choose is only one of many litmus tests that should be applied. If the Supreme Court cannot be unbiased, it should at least be balanced. The justices need to adjudicate things for what they are, not for what they want or imagine them to be.

TRUMP’S RE-ELECTION WAR

War Crimes & Criminals

Ask yourself this; who is Iran’s main ally? It’s Russia. And with Trump’s curious desire to be friends with Putin he will surely be tested by rising tensions in the Middle East. When Trump had problems with Syria and ISIS, he turned to Saudi Arabia to act as our broker in the region. When the final body count is in, Trump will be guilty of letting criminals reign, endorsing war crimes and the propping up ideologs who see war as conversation.

The new United Nation’s Human Rights Council’s paper on the unlawful murder of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi, downloadable here: [un report], clearly shows President Trump’s reluctance to place the blame on the Saudi Crown Prince. In a sense, Donald Trump is guilty of aiding and abetting. Under US law, this criminal action is part of Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(22).

Trump haters need not get excited. Prosecution against any person under this section may not be instituted without the written approval of the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, or an Assistant Attorney General. Knowing that William Barr is not a real A.G. but rather a P.O. (Political Operative), Trump will not be brought into court. The Justice Department could bring charges against the Crown Prince and name Donald Trump and Kushner as accomplices, but that could only be done if Turkey would refuse to bring charges there.

Trump abandoned a multi-nation agreement with Iran to curtail their nuclear ambitions. Candidate Donald blathered that the Iran Nuclear Deal was the worst ever, along with the NAFTA agreement, the Paris Accord, and everything else the Obama administration achieved over eight years.

Tension in the Persian Gulf has been amplified by Trump’s rhetoric and actions. Could it be that Trump was amped up by his awkward sword dance in Saudi Arabia? Jared Kushner’s buddy, Mohammad Bin Salman (MBS), got exactly what he wanted with both Iran and their war in Yemen, plus major arms sales to his kingdom. Congress voted against our involvement in Yemen, but Trump vetoed that bill proving that he is protecting the royal house of Saudi, not America.

Iran and the Russians view most of what happens in the world through religious or self-determination lenses and they share a common connection to oil and energy profit-taking. Trump and his ideologs need to comprehend that the more they push Iran to the brink of war, the more they will have to rely on Russia to intercede. It’s a fundamental theme of what can loosely be called the Trump doctrine, getting someone else to do the dirty work. But this one is more complex than just sending love letters to Kim Jong-Un or blasting out eight tweets before the sun rises.

The Saudi’s view Iran first as a competitor for the oil market, but also see them as a religious pothole that was created in 632 A.D., when Mohammed died without a clear successor. Iran is a Shia nation, while Saudi Arabia, since 1744, has been aligned with the religious leader Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, founder of the Wahhabi movement. This strict puritanical form of Sunni Islam perceives Iran’s Shiite majority as their natural enemy.

By aligning himself with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Trump has taken sides with the Sunnis. According to the BBC, “Shia make up roughly 10% of all Muslims, and globally their population is estimated between 154 to 200 million.” Their source was Pew Research. Sunnis comprise 85 to 90 percent of all Muslims, totaling 1.6 billion people. So, Trump’s alignment with the religious majority has geo-political implications that are far more complicated than his baby brain can comprehend.

During the formation of our country, we hooked up with French money to defeat the Brits. Then, a few years later, their revolution cut off the king’s head. Early in American history, we changed the name of the Church of England to the Episcopal Church, but we never outlawed the denomination. Our ethic concerns were based on freedom and justice of law.

We have always taken sides in conflicts around the world. We decided that a corrupt government in South Vietnam was more righteous than the North Vietnamese revolutionary Hồ Chí Minh, whom the citizens revered. We know how that worked out. We may have picked the right side in Korea, but we didn’t finish the job and created a greater threat by not working with the Chinese to create a complete country.

Donald Trump is not a good President and he will be tested greatly as the Commander in Chief. He’s not thinking about diplomacy, leadership or keeping the world safe; he’s thinking about being reelected. Every move he makes demonstrates his position as an amateur political hack, not a statesman.

Trump is now interfering with the military judicial system by pardoning or granting clemency to those accused or convicted of war crimes. This unwarranted activity can be debated in military circles, but some experts believe this will lower the moral mission mandate that US troops have always honored. This makes the military weaker and perpetrates the ugly American colonization and control image we have around the world.

Perhaps calmer minds and reluctant actions will prevail with the Iranian situation. It is clearly a challenge for a distracted person who just happened to get elected president. Only 70,000 votes put Trump in the White House. He wants to get reelected and relies on the help of imaginary friends most reasonable people would call foes. Can Putin be tapped to quell the dogmatic viewpoints of Iran and their Supreme Leader?

Let’s get something straight. Iran is a country which chants “Death to America,” while this President pushes his loyal lunatics to scream, “Lock her Up!” After hearing Trump speak, one would think that Democrats are the enemy and not North Korea, Russia, China or Iran. What a misguided, two-bit politician. It’s time for Trump to step up and lead, or he’ll be OUT! And the next president will then have to clean up a war Trump created with his lack of common sense and conspiratorial mindset. To be clear, Trump cannot be trusted.

ALABAMA GETAWAY

Trump’s Conspiracy Against Women

I grew up in a home with a very strong and opinuated woman. My mother was not ahead of her time, but she had a certain way of showing me the many ways that women and girls are equal to men and boys. We have arrived in a strange time when TV dramas depicting the stripping of women’s rights just might be more predictive than fantasy. See: The Handmaiden’s Tale.

25 white men in Alabama’s state government have now decided how all the women in the state should manage their bodies. The morality of the Alabama’s ruling class is built on a foundation of stupidity. They don’t understand that more unwanted children in their state will only increase the tax burden on the very people they are attempting to appease with this highly political ploy to reverse Roe vs. Wade. If this sounds a bit racist, I must remind the reader that statistics don’t lie. According to AL.com, “The poverty rate for Hispanic or Latino Alabamians is highest, at nearly 34 percent, compared with 31 percent for blacks and 14 percent for whites. Alabama’s median household income of $44,833 is nearly $11,000 less than the national median of $55,775. The difference grows starker when comparing black and white households, however. According to the report, white Alabamians earn $50,402 a year on average, compared with black Alabamians’ average of $29,180.” This study was done by Alabama Possible.

So, here’s my question. Why would the state government want to exacerbate the problem of income inequality, while driving more poor white state residents to depend on more services because of more children than they can afford?

Alabama’s draconian law, if it is ever applied, will force talented medical professionals away from the state. Smart doctors won’t take the chance of something going wrong in their operating room leading to a life sentence in prison. The quality of medical care will decline and medical insurance will skyrocket.

While discussing the Alabama ruling with some firm Trump supporters in another southern state, they voiced their distress because of non-exclusions for rape and incest victims. They said that was going too far. I agreed, and then one of the guys said, “That’s why they should leave this whole matter up to the states.” I raised my voice, “That’s the problem not the solution!” You see, once a snapping turtle latches on to a talking point, the brain’s logic circuitry no longer functions. The only force to stop this terrible law is the Supreme Court. If they reverse Roe Vs. Wade, they will once again MAKE LAW, not interpret it.

Now I have another question. Can a woman sue a rapist for child support in the state of Alabama? If not, then the Governor of Alabama has failed women by signing the bill before having a moral backstop law in place. They’re all confused. If a woman can’t seek any monetary retribution, then she’s been legally downgraded to three-fifths a person. Why does that sound familiar? With statues of limitations and overprotective male judges getting in the way of justice, it’s hard enough for a rape victim to get a conviction against her assailant,. Why are we adding an extra burden on women and awarding fatherhood to rapists? This is counter to every civil liberty women have fought so hard to gain.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t extend to my readers the courtesy of placing blame. Trump went on and on about why evangelicals and right-to-life people should vote for him. He clearly stated that he was going to stack the court with ultra-conservative judges who would overturn Roe vs. Wade. Even moderate Republican women voted for him. He did what he said he would do, even though seven out of ten American women, regardless of their political affiliations, do NOT want Roe vs Wade to be overturned. Of course, this doesn’t matter to Donald Trump. He has never respected women or minorities.

Trump believes that by trampling women’s rights he will be able to get re-elected, not once, but forever. If you think I am joking, you are a fool. We have a problem and there doesn’t seem to be a way to stop this insanity. Trump and Pence want all women to be controlled as they were in the old Testament of the Bible, casting America back to the stone age. If you think this can’t happen, remember that a loud minority of people were able to bring us prohibition for 13 years. How many women will die before more logical minds prevail in the fight of Right to Life vs. Freedom of Choice? Why would we create a medical police state? Why would someone, who no doubt paid for many abortions, be against a procedure that is in common practice and legal? We can only believe that he was taught that his own mother didn’t count. Notice, he never talks about her.

GUNS, GUTS & GRAVITAS

Trump’s Vacuous Reactions

Have you noticed that when Trump responds to various things, he sometimes seems passionate and focused, while at other times he offers a rather perfunctory reaction? If you assume that the 45th President of the United States has some thought process at work before he speaks, wouldn’t you also believe that he would try to be a respected leader with his words.

70% of everything Trump says is negative. He continually sounds more like a small-town politician rather than the leader of the free world. And because of his lack of precision when presenting his viewpoints, many people on the other side paint him with a justified brush of racism and xenophobia. They use his own words to reach their conclusions. Donald Trump is a horrible communicator. Consider the sheer volume of his statements and orders that must be explained by others in the administration. Of course, the common thread in the explanations from Trump supporters and, sadly, those in Congress is a tinge of anti-press putdown.

Hate speech and crimes in America are on the rise. In 2017, hate crimes were up by 17% (7,175 incidents): 1,679 of them were religious bias crimes, 58.1% were anti-Jewish and 18.9% were against the Islamic community. These stats are from the FBI. While some people are quick to assign blame to Trump, hatred seems to be a global trend that must be intelligently addressed. However, don’t look to Trump for leadership here; he’s not capable.

Our president is missing a gut feel for the realities of life in America. I have often believed he treats Putin well because he fears being poisoned by him. The reason he doesn’t take a strong stand against the White Nationalists, Neo-Nazis and the failing KKK is because he’s afraid they will turn against him politically. Some Neo-Nazis have already abandoned him because of his stance on Israel. Trump’s bailiwick is fear and hate, while his lack of understanding of real people could become his Waterloo.

Think of that hate cult known as the National Rifle Association. Trump fears the guys with the guns, and they manipulate his fear by motivating him to stand behind the 2nd Amendment in fake, patronizing ways. No matter what state Trump visits for his rallies, guns are not permitted in the building. Of course not. GUNS ARE DANGEROUS and there is no way the Secret Service could protect the president if people carried guns into a rally. Despite this, Trump pushes for guns in public places like schools and churches. You know, to shot back at the bad guys.

In his response to the gunfire in Poway, California, Trump gave his obligatory comments and then said that it “might be a hate crime,” before getting a report from authorities. Why would he do that? And then he tacked on, “that’s unbelievable.” Does he mean, that a hate crime is unbelievable, or that it’s unbelievable that in 2019 it’s happening again? As is typical of this moronic man, his sentence construct gets him in trouble and misguides us.

Trump dismisses major realities like global warming and climate change without a drop of common sense. He doesn’t relate to the pain that extreme weather is causing to Americas in every state. He’s disinterested in taking a strong stance against foreign meddling in our elections because he thinks it’s good for him. He obviously doesn’t care about people, only himself.

The Trump surrogates on TV keep referencing Donald’s frustration about how the investigation into Russian interference was conducted and his belief that it shouldn’t have started in the first place. It’s appalling when semi-literate Congressional leaders paint a picture that it’s more important protect the President fragile temperament than to fortify the electorate against fraud and deception. Who are these people?

In pitching his book, Mike Lee of Utah talked about how the problem is Congress, even though he is a member of Congress. He complains bitterly about those “unelected” career government people who have done such terrible things to Trump. That’s rich. Hey, Mike, you do realize we didn’t vote for Jared Kushner, or Ivanka, or Mick Mulvaney or Betsy Devos and the rest of the low-life ideologs who are ruining America right before our very eyes. They are political appointees who should be doing their damn jobs to protect the Constitution and to help America.

Kushner says that a “few ads” on Facebook was no big deal and claimed that the Mueller Investigation did more harm to democracy than Russian interference. You lost, little boy. Perhaps your ancestors from Belarus found living under Russian rule for so long wasn’t all that bad. Well, not all that bad after getting past the imprisonments and executions.

Hardly anyone talks about GUNS these days. They focus on HATE. The thousands of parents and families who have been torn to pieces by gun violence in America have never lost their focus. We will never get any effort to curtail the White Nationalists, Neo-Nazis or the KKK from Donald John Trump. He’s simply chicken-shit-scared of them. Trump will never make a grand speech or produce a plan to reduce the hate that is flaring up in America. He holds the blowtorch in his small little hand while insincerely protesting these “sad things.”

The vile and derogatory disparagement Trump spreads at his rallies, press conferences and online tweets has penetrated the mass mentality of our nation. His highly destructive attitude toward anyone who thinks differently than him is appalling and offers a back-stage pass to radical minds intending to harm.

Trump is an idiot when it comes to understanding the fragile intellects of those who follow him. He truly believes that most Americans are so stupid he can get away with anything. He dismisses the people who are trying to tell him what he is doing wrong as haters. By simply using the word, he is promoting hate. Since Trump demonstrates a belief that he’s above the law, a lunatic-coward wielding an AR-15 believes he can make a difference, too. Sadly, people die when such errant political rhetoric is acted out. Trump has blood on his hands, just like Pontius Pilate. Happy Passover.

CREATIVE IMMIGRATION SOLUTIONS

Trump is the Bozo on this Bus

I’ve often said that people who work in government are not particularly creative. Some of those public servants may be smart and have imaginative abilities, but the bureaucratic pounding over the years can wring that talent right out of those people with original ideas.

If we agree that illegal immigration is a challenge here in America, then it behooves us to find a solution. People from Mexica and Central American countries are seeking asylum in the US, but the current resident in the White House believes that the law about asylum is a “con job.” In fact, the law is clear: “The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) authorizes the Attorney General to grant asylum if an alien is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin because she has suffered past persecution or has a well-founded fear of future persecution on account of ‘race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.'”

The Trump administration has no interest is this law and will do whatever it can to stop its enforcement, but is it really thinking about a creative solution? Let’s look at a few ideas.

First, the Aleutian Islands off the mainland of Alaska currently has a population of 8,162 people. These 6,821 square miles of land could provide an opportunity for people seeking asylum in the US. We have encouraged landed immigrants to settle in undeveloped lands in our past. BTW, that is about the same area as Massachusetts.

A more creative thinking President might support families seeking landing status in the United States if they would like to develop these sparsely populated areas. Throw in a pathway to citizenship, and we could end up with a huge positive for state, country and immigrants.

What if safe oil drilling and production could take place in this area and bring an economic boom to an ignored area of our nation? What if we could encourage these landed asylum seekers ways to create, run and develop small farms? We could simultaneously increase the quality of the country’s food supply and help solve the problem immigration influx.

Here’s a final idea, perhaps more controversial. We could enlist males of age coming across the border into a strong, Spanish speaking military force to partner with Mexican and Central American forces to end crime and deal a blow to terrorism. Without the control of the underlying problems in these countries, we will never be able to curtail the flow of dangerous refugees into the United States.

Donald Trump doesn’t care about people; he cares only about power. When backed into a corner, he blames someone else. There is no effort to find creative solutions to any problem because he’s doesn’t have innovative thinking or energy. In his privately held businesses, he has shouted orders without the scrutiny of a board of directors, stockholders and employees. Running the United States is much more difficult and the chaos in his administration pushes focus onto how things look rather than creative solutions.

Immigration could bring us a win-win. Unfortunately, our government’s smartest people are not permitted to offer solutions. Trump is the worst boss ever and, absolutely the worst president of my lifetime.
